223 vs 6br for girlfriend

You could do that and rebate the 6BR rims to fit the 223.
The cartridge to the far right is a BR rebated to 223 rim size.

Remington R.P. brass missing flash hole... I'd like to say I'm surprised, but really I'm not.

Sorry to derail the thread.

Alex we shoot a 1K fun match every 4th Saturday, so there’s another day to shoot. Do a 6BR or better yet a Dasher or BRX. A 223 at 1K just ain’t happening compared to a 6mm..

Yeah Shawn, that's what I was thinking about, but I dont know how often she will want to shoot at 1k to start. Maybe I'll just build a 6br and let her shoot my #2 6.8 upper for mid range and steel stuff, that's only got about 65 rounds through it now. It's a clone to my current upper. We'll see once I get her behind the rifle!

Once she shoots distance she'll want to shoot more, farther, and smaller.
We were up in the mountains this weekend shooting. Wife got tired of the big rock and moved onto smaller rocks after hitting the bigger rock 4 or 5 times.
She was pasting the small rock at 780yards consistantly!

I shoot my 223 free recoil, so there IS no recoil to worry about. The 6br on the other hand, gotta snuggle up to that one. That'd be a down the road upgrade, IMOP.

Loading 223 is very simple. I use a Lee collet die to neck size only in my Criterion 8 twist bolt gun. Brass doesn't grow, only reason to trim is to even up the neck lengths on occasion. Brass lasts for EVER when shooting 69 to 77 SMKs and it doesn't cost a pound of powder every time you want to spend a day at the range.

And then there's that dang 53 gr. V-Max. Cheap and super accurate out to 500 yds. What's not to like?

And if you really don't mind having your hat handed to you by your GF, put a tuner on the front end. Once she's mastered that, you won't stand a chance.

And you'll have created a real monster.:D:D:D

If you went with a 7" twist and 28-30" bbl she could shoot Sierra 90s to a grand. With my rifle so set up I keep up with 6BR shooters easily to 600yds. Cut the throat long enough so that 80s and 90s sit with the bullet shank just ahead of the shoulder/case shank joint. With 24.6gr. of Varget I am pushing 90s to 2770fps easily and retained 1K velocity above 1400 fps.

This was my thinking as well and the OP is already set up to load for it

The problem with that is, if we all thought that way we’d all only own one caliber...

True.

And because I haven’t thought that way in the past I now have a proliferation of cartridges, dies, rifles and pistols

So now it’s started me thinking the other way.

Wait, what I’m talking about. Just yesterday I was telling myself I need a 6.5x47 because I don’t have one.

Disregard anything I’ve said. I have no willpower. I can’t be trusted

You younguns were not around in the olden days when a lot of experimentation was done. I have 2 cases of that brass. They were for the folks that were experimenting with flash hole size. I have a lot of 222 and 223 Federal brass without flash holes.

Well Josh, I wasn't raising my hand. I was simply thinking that as much as I hate the 223, I wouldn't trade for a girlfriend. But maybe the OP was onto something when he thought BR...might be a good deal for him in that case.

I am quite content with my bride of 33 years

Ok! Good to know. Just got me wondering what you were thinking. A nice Borden action sitting in a Claro walnut stock could probably get you a nice trade, out west. If they still do that kind of trading. :eek:Maybe I’m behind the times but I think there were “some” good aspects of living in the 1800’s. A good horse was only $20........
