223 to 221 Fireball

Is it reasonable to have a .223 Remington rechambered to the .221 Fireball? This is a straight taper Wilson varmint barrel. Anything involved besides setting the barrel back due to the shorter case of the .221, cutting additional threads and chambering?

It would depend on the action . But all you need is a lathe , reamer and one last thing , experience using them .

The action is a Cooper 21. I don't intend to try to do the work myself and actually would appreciate a recommendation for a good gunsmith for this type of work.

It would not be worthwhile to invest money in a used or even new barrel that is chambered for another cartridge . You would be better off financially if you sell your current barrel and but a new blank in the contour and twist you want . Any licensed , insured gunsmith can do it . Many good ones on this forum . It doesn't need to be near you as you can send direct to a real smith .
Even if you can do the work yourself , it rarely pays to rechamber a used barrel .

That's it, as long as you have the twist rate you want (faster is better). Bob Green works on Cooper rifles. Kevin Weaver does it also, I believe... Cooper did offer that case in a model 21 for a short time.
