223 RWS brass

I have found some 223 RWS brass in my LGS and was wondering how it compares to Lapua? I know RWS brass is always tough, but has anyone tried the 223 brass? Does it give much less internal volume than Lapua? How was consistency? I,m looking at running 90s in mid range F/TR.

Word is that it is really tuff brass.. should do fine with the 90's.. just make sure that you do prep your brass fully and sort them by weight after the full prep..

Be sure to compare case volume before loading. My only experience with RWS brass is in .300 Win Mag...which has much less capacity than other makes of .300 brass.

It will certainly be something to check.
It might negate the benefits of tough brass if it has much less volume.

Hi Rod. What barrel brand and twist are you considering?
Bob, I would be going for a 7" twist Bartlein in an F/TR suitable profile, likely around 30" long. My intention would be to use it in local shoots, so likely light conditions, sometimes out to 800M max, usually only out to 600Y.

At one time I had about 500 rounds of once fired .223 RWS brass. I can't compare it to Lapua but I was extremely pleased with the RWS stuff. I necked it down with Redding bushing dies to make .20 P and did other operations on I; it performed very well with max loads. After 6 cycles I tossed it but possibly it was good for 1-2 more times. It appeared extremely uniform in all aspects well annealed (no split necks) and I was happy with it.

Kind of in the same boat as frywall above.Had 100 pcs knecked down for a 20 Tac.Still have 50 these were hotroded as they were shot in my wintertime coyote gun.Shot 6-8 times(first 50) then chucked them i think i could of gootten away with a couple more reloads but decided not to tempt fate. These were also kneck turned.I have the lapua stuff now just have only shot a couple.Probably would by some new (RWS) if i could get them at a reasonable price.I paid a buck ea for the RWS 20 yrs ago.

I came upon it by chance. Black Hills factory ammo is sometimes made with RWS brass. I have been using it with 22.7 Varget and 73 gr. Berger and 22.1 Varget and 80 gr. Berger, both nowhere near max pressure from what I have used as references. I have at lease 25 firings, no split necks, full size every fifth firing, never had to throw one out. Thinner neck than Lapua and Norma, though.
