223 Remington action

I have a small problem. There is a 223 Remington 700 action collecting dust on my shelf. They seem hard to find right now just like everything else.looking for input on Calibers that I could use this action and bolt face for. Any suggestions ? Experience would be nice to hear about.

What would you.build? Thanks

.20 practical..223AI,.204 ruger,.300 blackout I think,.17 rem and a myriad of wildcats abound.Or you could open the bolt face and make a 6ppc,7.62x39mm,or go further and open it up for a .473 head and the skys the limit.

6x45 looks interesting. I want to keep price down for a bit so not planning on opening the bolt face yet. Has anyone dealt with the 6x45 or the 7x45?

Matthias, Lots of info on the forum on 6x45. Use the "search forum" feature and search on 6x45. Also may want to search on 6tcu which is very close to a 223AI necked up to 6mm.

Does your 6x45 feed from a magazine well? Most say it should. But should and does are different.

I will vote with Jon, 8tw .223AI. Shoot 80 grain A-Max at 3K+ fps with a 26" tube. Mine is my go-to Varmint gun to 400 yards. This is not it's limits but I have .243AI's for the longer stuff.

300 Black Out YES. Originally started as J.D.Jones 300 Whisper based on .221 Remington Fireball but he trade marked that one and it's basically a necked up .223. Maybe not my first choice but certainly an interesting one to consider.

6x47 - the original one from back in the 70s; 222 Rem Mag necked up to 6mm.

The 6 x 45 gets my vote. Very easy on barrels and incredible accuracy. Built my on a Stiller action with a Lilja 12 twist barrel and was designed to shoot the light bullets. I really like this little round.

no one likes 6TCU little more juice and zero feeding issues .
