Remington 221 fireball bolt

Will a standard Remington 700 Short Action 223 Bolt fit in place of my 221 fireball Bolt. Could I use the fireball bolt for 223 I don't need the ejector if that is part of the problem for a swap. I cant find any clear information on this. Thanks for any replies...

The 222 Remington case is the parent of several offspring, the 221 Fireball and 223 Remington be amongst them so yup, in a Remington 700 they’ll all use the same bolt.

I believe the extractor is in a different location on the fireball bolt. It was moved to keep the bolt from dropping the shorter case into the action when trying to eject an empty case. It should work the other way though I would think. Using a fireball bolt on the longer case I think would be alright.

As long as it pulls the case out im fine. It is setup as a single shot at the moment. I was just worried it wouldn't pull it out at all for some reason. Ive seen PT&G has complete bolts at a fair price so I was worried the bolt was way different in some way or maybe the action was different.

it works just fine. slightly different orientation of the bolt face components , but it will pull cases just fine. i have built several of the 221 or 300 blk on 223 actions . a little bit of fiddling work to get them to eject spent cases but otherwise a straight forward setup

Unless I'm reading the post wrong---
No way in this world will a XP-100 bolt fit in a short action Remington 700, the XP bolts are to short for that..
At least none of mine that were just checked will fit.....

He is asking about the standard size 700 SA and standard 700 SA bolt

Preacher were you hitting the sauce lol. I'm joking Sir. I actually didn't know about the xp-100 bolts are they really shorter if so why Sir

The XP-100 pistol is based on the model 600/660 action and for a few years was only chambered in 221 Fireball (and was the only factory firearm chambered in that round), so when many of us hear "221 Fireball" with no mention of an action other than an XP-100, we automatically figure the firearm shooting the Fireball is an XP pistol. No 700 bolt will fit an XP, and vice versa.

Sorry OIF/OEF, seems like I usually have XP-100's on my mind when I see 221 Fireball...
I walk funny enough as it is, so no sauce for me !!!!
