.223 Rem match chamber?

Way back before I knew better, a fellow shooter offered me his 223 “Match” reamer for a new barrel I was putting on my bolt match rifle. It had a .250 neck and very little throat, which would not let me load 80 grainers without going to mag length! IMO a .250 is doable in a bolt gun, but a little tight as they go, especially compared to the chamber dimensions of AR platform rifles. My current reamer has a .252 neck and .090 throat, which allows me to load 69 and 80 grain bullets out a bit. As stated get your brass, seat a bullet and take measurements off that, a little roomier neck won’t hurt accuracy a bit and may make you life a bit easier in what brass you can use.

In order to call a reamer/chamber dimensions "standard", it must be accepted by either saami or CIP. if it is not, then it should not be called "STANDARD", regardless of how many are offering the chamberings. it is a wildcat and the term that should be used is most popular version. any time a person buys a non SAAMI chambered barrel or reamer, you need to verify the dimension. it's the smart thing to do. I am not trying to be a smart ass, I learned the hard way. about $1000.00 worth of reamers, dies and brass ruined. FWIW

from SAAMI website
“Wildcat Cartridge” is a cartridge for which the dimensions, performance and pressure levels standards have not been set by SAAMI

i always just used a Wylde Chamber with the throat cut for a Berger 90 VLD so that the bearing surface was about 10 thou above the neck/shoulder joint.. won a lot of matches with that set up!

highpower is not the only place a 223 is shot in a match.
I have a short throat 250 neck 223 reamer.
little groups at 100 with 52/53 match bullets

Of course you are correct, there is a place for that configuration, but not in full XTC HP.
I was trying to explain that my naivety at the time showed through, that my thinking was that a 223 is a 223. I didn’t know better, of course that was long, long ago, now I do.

As I'm breaking in my Northland 223 Match Remage barrel, I'm noticing that the fired brass from it isn't allowing a bullet to drop into the mouth. After measuring the Lapua and WCC brass, they both have enough expansion/clearance to allow release of the bullet, (about .004"), but the mouth seems to be crimped closed slightly. The match chamber must be cut for an unusually short neck. Regardless, it shoots great, so I will be trimming my brass back to wherever it calls for to allow trouble free release!

I have a nss criterion 223 rem match barrel. The chamber difference over the standard ar style 223, is freebore... it has 0.090" freebore to run heavier bullets (75-80) without pushing them deep in the case. I am using reworked LC brass that weighs 91-92gr each. 75gr vld, 26gr varget, cci 450, @ 2.48" is amazingly accurate @ 3000+ fps

I believe the criterion chamber is also 1.5 degree on the leade instead of 3 degrees. I'm hoping so, anyway as my barrel comes in a few days! (not that I care much if it shoots)

My OEM savage 9 twist will also have bullet friction on fired brass. So that's not uncommon.
