.223 Question

I was just wondering what is the lightest bullet that you can shoot accurately with 1:7 twist. I know this twist is meant for the heavier bullets ie: 80's and 90's. I am asking this because I am wanting to purchase a Savage Model 12 Long Range Precision Varminter but I don't know if I should get it in a 1:9 twist or a 1:7 twist. I have read here that the 1:9 twist will stabilize bullets as heavy as 75grs but was actually wanting something a little heavier but still wanna shoot the lighter 69's or so. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks again.

I have shot the 52 SMK with good accuracy. I would think if you load to around 3200 fps you could shoot the 45 gr bullets with good accuracy.

Steve here... I have a 1-7/7 Krieger and it shoots 52 Bergers the best. All the others 40's 69's and 80's ok

Oh wow really?! That is shocking cause of the twist rate! Right on. So it out shoots the heavies by a long shot eh?

I have shot 52's in 1 in 7, 1 in 7.7, and 1 in 8 twist with good results at 200 yards.

I normally shoot 69 grain out to 300 yards and 80 grain bullet out to 600 yards.
