22Cal Sierra Match Bullets

Got a 500 piece box of 22-250 77 grain Target Bullets off one of the sight, wasn't made aware that Sierra said on the box for 7&8 Twist Barrels Only. I have a 1-9 Twist Hart barrel. In the opinion of those in the know will a 1-9 Twist shoot them accurately? I am not a target shooter but do try to shoot the best groups I can for my satisfaction. Thanks Lou

The General rule is usually 69gr-73gr is about the heaviest bullet a 1 in 9 twist will handle. But there is always a exception to the rule. I have a friend that shoots these out of his 1 in 9 twist Savage .223 and they shoot in the low .3's My .223 1 in 9 twist prefers the 69gr bullet. If you are not a target shooter they may work just fine for you. The real proof is in the shooting. Give them a try. My friends load is 25.2gr of BL-C2. In his .223

Howdy !

Can you tell us, what barrel length you're shooting, and perhaps... intended powder ?

I found these to marginal in a 9x but they shot sub moa, the 80 will not work they are too long - i would not open the box, trade ti for 69 Sierra matchking, they will be all you want.

The OP mentioned a 22-250.If that is what he's shooting wouldn't the higher velocity [relative to a .223] make his 9 twist likely to work?

Thanks everyone. The barrel is 28" just got the rifle have no loads for it I have 69 grain berger bullets if these don't work I will trade them Lou

In my Hart 1/9 22-250 I shoot the 75 grain Amax with excellent accuracy and 25 mins of correction to 1000 yards. Believe my velocity is 3350 fps. Its a hot load, but I bet they will work for you. My barrel is 22 inches long.

You shouldn't have any problems as long as your not stuck to loading at mag. length, I used 77 gr. Sierra's out of a Factory Savage 112BT in .223 Rem. 1-9" barrel shooting a 800-61X (4-20 shot Matches) with 24.50 grs. Varget, Fed. GMM Brass and 205M primers jumping them roughly .020 (2.495 OAL)

Thanks everyone I think I made a trade? LYK ASAP. Again thanks for the info. Love the sight I am a novice when it comes to target shooting I only have sighted in for hunting but have strived for the best groups possible. I am about to join a 1000 yard range with various ranges below the 1000 yard. Hope to maybe get into some comp. target shooting. Have the 22-250 custom 1-9 twist and a Savage f-class in 6BR 1-12 twist Again Thanks Lou
