223 pet loads

Anyone got any pet loads for the 223 bullet weights between 69 to 80 grains I have some 88 grain bullets but not sure if a 8 twist will work with the 88 grainers

For those 88 gr, you would be ideal at a 1:7 but would be marginal with the 1:8 unless you are shooting at higher altitude and lucky. The SG at sea level with 1:8 is only 1.19 with the Berger 85.5 so anything longer is going to be worse.

For the Sierra 77 SMK the classic Pet Load is plus or minus 24 grains of RE-15 or about 23.5 Varget with a Rem 7 1/2 primer in LC brass. These are fairly spicy Service Rifle loads and hard on the brass in an AR 15.

The SMK 80, Berger 80 and 80.5 are very close to the same charges as above. YMMV

Here are some more.

Having a good "surprising" run from 77TMKs, 8208XBR and CCI 400s in a Savage 12BVSS 1-9. Stumbled onto this as a goof.

I'll second the TAC powder with Nosler 69gr. Custom Competition and 70gr. RDF bullets. Just did a work up for a friend's Savage Model 12 starting at 22 grains. Basically shot a one hole group with 23.3 grains.
