223 OCW

So I think I was having some issues with ignition in my 223, and decided to send my bolt off to get a new firing pin spring. I was having light primer strikes which would give me misfires and I believe also giving me some issues with accuracy, since I could barely get it under an inch. I'm hoping this has it cleared up, but started my OCW testing today. Results below, I'm a numbers guy so don't give me too much hate over my charts!

Rifle is Model 7, trued, with Timney trigger and Benchmark barrel, 69 gr TMKs, H4895 powder.

And the targetIMG_1847.jpg

24.4 - 25.2 in .2 grain increments.

I like the nice tight group at 24.8, but it also is at an inflection point for vertical change relative to powder charge. What are your thoughts?

24.9 gives you a good leway between two charges .Your scale can throw a charge that's off a bit and it still shoots close to same poi . Then tinker with seating depth and see if it's still repeated. I like 5 shot groups or more .

When I go to seating depth test I plan to go to 5 shot, then final verification for my load 10 rnd. I got a week before I get more bullets in, so plenty of time to overthink whether I should have tried 5 round groups!

I would shoot at least four shots but as A_Gamehog said five would be better. Your poi seems about the same for
the three groups in the center of your target I would pick your 24.8 group and see what your seating depth does. :)

If that's a 50 yd target, I'd say you've still got some work to do. If its a 500 yd target, I think you're just about there ;). Go with the 24.8 and load up for some 10 round groups exploring seating depth.
