.223 loads

Need some advice on loads for .223. 50 and 52 gr. bullets. any suggestions?
Will be using 1-14 twist barel.

It was made for light 50-60 grain bullets for varmint hunting. Thus the 1-14 twist.

a 14 twist seems very slow for a .223, ( not that its not possible ) might just ck on it to be positive.......

Savage offers .223 barrels in 1 in 14, 10, 9, 7 twist, and for grins and giggles my 1 in 9 twist Savage has a longer throat than my two AR rifles with 5.56 NATO chambers.

try using RL 10x.

my rifle: howa 1500 24" ,223 1-12.

52/53 smk @2.25 24.2gn of RL10x winchester brass(94.5+/- .5) and f205m, .236" five shot group @ 100yards

Many powders work very well in this cartridge - Here are a few I've used with great success: Varget, Benchmark, H4895, H335.

Bullets: All my 223's have 12" twist - The following 50 and 55 grain bullets have all worked very well for me: Nosler BT's , Hornady Vmax's, and Sierra Blitz.

Primers - my best success has been with Federal 205 match primers and Remington 7 1/2'a.

Benchmark with the 50,52,53, and 55 bullets is my choice but others will work good. H335 has been listed in manuals as the accuracy powder. I do also use IMR 4895 with 55's as I have a lot of that. Benchmark is more accurate for me. I have used a lot of H322 and it is great.

Another to try with that weight class bullet is Vihtavuori N133.

25 grs of Benchmark, with 50-55 gr. Shoots great.

For about 20yrs I've been using AA2015 which is very accurate and fast. Also AA2230 shoots about the same but a little slower, and it can vary quite a bit from lot to lot. Terrific powder with 50's is VV133, but expensive.

imr 8208 xbr or the original imr 8202 mil surplus....

my hart bbl'd 1/14 does about .2 with this powder and 53/52's

26" bbl, 1" at the muzzle produces 3500/3600 in my

ar15......3" wide flat forarm/36x luepold br scope...
