'....223 loads....'

Wow, where to start! There are so many good starting loads. You probably have a Sierra or Hornady manual, those are good places . Also do an internet search with your bullet and powder of choice and see what pops up. In my opinion, the least important items or the loading recipe are the primer and variance from a 'reasonable' seating depth. I always start with about a .005 bullet jump, one good bullet choice, one good powder choice then vary the load from minimum to maximum listed in three steps, or close to that. SOmetimes I will skip the lightest load as I've not experienced a really light load that was accurate in a rifle. I shoot 3 or 5 shot groups and go from there. Most of my rifles shoot best at less than the max load.

I have a 12BVSS in 9 twist. What works for me may not work for you but here's a start......PLEASE verify the load in a manual to help me not give you bad info....
Sierra MK 69 gr bullet
Varget 26.0 grs
Seating depth, case base to ogive, NOT overall) 1.982 inch

I am sorry but I have not used RL15 or H4895. I have used W748,25.5 was good) and vvN135.

You might try H4895 24.5 grains with the 69 grain bullet. This load works great for me in my FP10 223 with a 1:9 twist barrel and my AR-15 with a 1:7.7 twist barrel> I am using the Sierra MK 69 grain bullet seated .030' off in the FP10 and to mag length in the AR.

Thanks for the advice guys.I think I will start with 24 grains of varget and work my way up from there.

Just got back from range testing 69gr Sierra's with lapua brass neckturned and CCI Benchrest primers
Remington xcr LRT 26' 1/9 twist, jewel,triger & bedded 8x32 Nightforce
100 yards 5 shot groups
26 Varget .650' 3068fps avg, spread 28fps

25gr RL15 .230' 2936 fps spread 16fps
25.5 RL15 ..550 3035fps
26gr Rl15 .640 3069fps
VT 540 26gr .430' 3097fps
IMR 4895 24.8gr 3008fps ***only 8ft differance in 5 loads
4in .,200 one got out on me out .510'
I will try IMR 4895 again was quite surprised using it, most guys use Varget with 80gr sierra's and bergers with 25gr Varget
1/4min load
hope this may help you

Thanks...that will be very helpfull..Since you are a fellow canadian I just have to ask where you source your components and reloading tools.

You might start a .5-1gr down from your load. I found best accuracy with a min. load several times, and the 69gr SMK in my 1:9 AR was it. I've used Varget and R15 for 69gr SMK, and 75gr H- BTHP. Also have some Berger 73gr to load with Varget.

All three powder will work well with that size bullet. You may also want to try a ball powder, such as AA2230 or BLC2.
Ball powder will measure easy at the range with a Culver measure or similar.

Else, I load em up 5 in a group in .5gr increments from min to max using a standard length. 2.26 for the SMK. After I find the load I want, I then play with COL, to see what works.

Try the 450's, but you can experiment with those as well.

25.0 of H4895, lit by CCI450's, provides 3000 fps with 69 gr HPBT Sierra or Nosler in all of my 1:9 twist bolt rifles. Rather accurate in the 24' ar15 Varminter as well. Of course, you will need to work up to this load.

75 gr. Hornady BTHP shot better for me from a 1x9 barrel then the 69 at over 200 yards. Varget, RL-15 and 4064 all shoot well.
