223 case volume?

So how do you tell what powder will fill the case the best ? How good is benchmark in a 223

For the benchmark question, I can say it has worked awesome for me and the 40 gain nosler ballistic tips!

I don't know how it works with the heavier bullets, I'm sure others will have some insight on this.

+1 Combined with your bullet seating depth, there is only one way to find out. Trial and error (only keep it safety error of bad groups, not action exploding compressed charges error). Research to know you aren't pioneering something completely new, just tuning a load to your rifle.

The Berger and Nosler books show percentage of fill in case for a lot of powders. Benchmark works very well with 50 to 55 gr bullets.

It's not about what will fill the case the best but which powder, bullet, brass, and primer combination along with neck tension and seating depth your barrel likes best.

One of my custom barrels loved Varget so well that one day, while working up a load, which included Lapua 223 brass, CCI BR4 Benchrest primers, and a Ronnie Cheek custom made bullet, that it produced a .084" 5-shot group [measured by a match director].
