223 and Ram shot tac

I started out at 24.4 of Tac with a 77smk, I know kinda bold I had a light ejector swipe but the primer was not flat.. I backed off 3 clicks on my harrels thrower and kept working down till something shot well at 200 yards.. I ended up in a spot where it was stable and grouping well within 6 clicks of range.. once I got home I weighed my charge 10x and came up with 22.8 grains. My 5 shot group in 15mph wind at 100 yards looked like a 30-38 caliber bullet hole through the scope. (I didn’t measure or take pics because some guys showed up and started shooting so I didn’t want to interrupt them.

I like it, I shot 3 groups of 5 that all could easily been covered up with a 38 cal bullet.

I was going to buy 5 more pounds of it, and it’s sold out..

Just loaded up a few different charges under some Hornady 75gr bthps with cannelure. Will post results as soon as I have time to get out to the range. Probably going to try some 77s as well.

I used to use it under the 65gr Sierra SBT in a 1:9 bolt gun and got good accuracy out of it.

It did seem to prefer a heavier charge up near max if I remember rightly.

(NB Check Ramshot data. They produce .223 Rem and 5.56 Data. The 5.56 gave me better results)

Also Brunos has 10# packs of Tac.
Recently back from my first outing w/ Tac.
75gr hornady bthp w/ cannelure
COAL around 2.24 (these bullets need to be backed up a little off mag length IME to tighten up)
24.0gr Tac
CCI no 41 primers
LC brass
Avg 2771
ES 103
SD 41.2
other than velocity the numbers arent great but the group was ok. Right around MOA maybe a touch under.
18" WOA spr barrel
tried 23.6 and 23.8, velocity was less SD and ES a little less too but nothing special.
Going to play with seating depth and try some Sierra 77s with 24.0. Sierras always shoot better than those Hornadys IME.

I found a touch of crimp helped with the 55gr Hornady FMJBT. Pulled in the vertical dispersion and a lot less soot on the neck and shoulders.

Might be worth a try.

I forgot to mention I am doing a touch of crimp. I chambered a non crimped round, ejected it and measured awhile back it did grow a touch. Forget how much. Figured I try crimping with the cannelure. I also have heard and seen cannelure bullets break apart at the cannelure with makes for some nice wounding if your hunting. I am thing Im going back to non cannelure/crimp though.
This is my first try with crimping so I'm still feeling it out.

Excellent stuff.

I don't crimp often in rifle rounds but a couple of things seem to like it, 1 being the 223 Rem with Hornady FMJBT

I used it XTC in an AR match rifle for 69, 77’s and 80’s. In my 223AI bolt gun with 77’s it was so accurate, that I keep thinking of revisiting that load.

Car to share? I loaded up 100 77gr SMKs over 24.0 for a last minute match, got a nail in the tire that morning and never went. Still trying to get out to the range and test that load.
