.223 and Pigs

Yes, I ,meant 53 gr TSX, They will hold together & will shoot in a 12 twist. Probably what they were designed for. The problem that you'll see with a lot of the cup & core bullets is that the bullet that worked great in a 223 won't in a 22-250 . Many just won't take the extra speed without blowing on impact.

I've grabbed Barnes 55gr TSX, should stabilise, as well as penetrate on most pigs up to 50kg with easy. Above that and i may have to be a bit pickier with shot placement (not that i should ever not be).

Yeah, meat would be nice, so I'll be taking ear shots or heart shots as often as i can (on still targets). Otherwise, killing the pig regardless of meat condition is more important than loosing him.

When I come to re-barrelling I think ill go with an 8 or 9" twist in the .22-250 or .22-250 ackley improved, but I'm not even halfway there [=

Wapiti, it didnt occur to me that solid coppers would be longer than a jacketed counterpart, makes sense too. I remember when I was testing different charge weights for the Nosler Ballistic 50gr, I couldnt put anything more than 25gr of powder before it started compressing. You had me worried for a sec that id struggle to get up to 24.5gr but overall bullet length is equal between 50gr NB and 55gr TSX

Length on the 55 won't be an issue. I see no real difference in powder charges between them & a simular weight BT.

24.5gr of AR2006H is where it starts compressing. Loaded up 23, 23.5, 24gr as well. For those who are curious, I'll post my findings when I next hit the accursed range.

I once bought some bulk 64gr (?Win) SPs back from the US to use on bigger stuff like goats and the odd sika. The one and only load I threw together using ADI load data produced a sub inch group (just) in my std SPS sporter. Never bothered measuring the velocity as it was good enough for the intended limited use.

These are a pretty stubby bullet for their weight and would have to be at the limits of a 12 twist barrel

-we shot 3 pigs in the head at the same time with a 22lr, 22wmr and 17hmr, the only one that ran off was the 22lr pig but that was probably shooter error. as long as your shooting head and neck i would not have any problem shooting your nosler 50s, they should wallop pigs in the head and still have enough thump because of the thicker jacketing in the base to put the hurt on them.
I used 55 nosler bts on deer another option would be barnes solids but id only bother if you were going for traditional shots where you might hit a shoulder.
