223 AI Contender

I am thinking of having a 223 AI 14 twist 21' tube built for my contender.

How about some input.

I do not have a contender, but love the 223 AI with 1:12, 1:14, 1:9, & 1:8 twist barrels.

Initial brass prep, then fire form, and keep loading them. Your fireformed rounds will be in the 1.732-1.740' length, and you may never reach 1.750 after 8-10 loads on that brass.

what is a load for 55gr. bullets. also you ever shoot any 75gr. a-max outta your faster twist 223ai. sorry if i'm stealing thread, but it's late and i'm jst curious.

I use Benchmark or H4895 for 55's...at a touch under 3600,you can run them over 3600, but why tear up the throat when you are shooting prairie dogs? )

69 gr Nos or Sierra HPBT's with H4895 provide 3300 FPS.

75 gr AMax with Benchmark or H4895 leave the barrel at 3150.

Hi Guys I was told 50-52 gr tips in a 14 twist tube would be the most accurate. I'm a paper puncher 100 to 400 yards.

It would be nice to be able to shoot a little heavier tip but WHO KNOWS?

yeah, really i think 55 would be the heaviest you could shoot accuratly with a 14 twist in a 223. my 22-250 seems to like everthing from 40-55grs and it has a 1-14, i think with the slower speeds of a 223 you really need a 1-12 for 55-65. who knows jst try it. these are jst guidlines and thinkgs that aren't supposed to work work for me all the time.

My 223AI's,24' bbl 1:14 twist)fav load is the Sierra Varmiter 60gr.,my 1:14 does stab. these short 60gr, HP's) with a moderate to heavy load of H4895. Super accurate
