223 69gr Sierra MK load w/lc brass

I have seen the 223 load thread, but i saw very little info about the 69gr SMK in the thread. I have found a bunch of the sierra's and was looking for a good starting point for a load in my savage that has a 1-9 twist. I have an abundance of LC brass and with the supply shortage i will be utilizing it. I have varget, rl15, H4895, and 8208 xbr. Any info would be greatly appreciated

just for ease of loading i would start with the 8208.....it may not work but much easier to load so find out and eliminate it early..or use it.
sort that brass. define your accuracy requirement. there was a couple posts in the past on how much the brass can vary. it cost you nothing but time to sort it, so why not.

the other three powders will probably work well but are harder to load int he small neck/small case.

stacy that would be great. As far as accuracy requirements, this gun is going to be a mid-range paper puncher, our local range only goes out to 500 yds and a varmint/predator gun. With the supply shortage continuing, there are very few varmint bullets out there so i figured i would give these a try. Thanks

MY LOAD IS 25GRS H-4895 W/69GR SEIRRA'S AND 25.5GRS W/68GR HORNADY'S MY RIFLE IS A SAVAGE 110FP 1/9TW 26'' THIS THING SHOTS LIGHTS OUT...............

GOOD LUCK HOPE THIS HELPS

stacy,
I have the savage 10 predator hunter and so far it is as accurate of a rifle as you could ask for. Thanks for the info, and one last thing, what is your overall length?

Here is a link that list some of the pet loads used by high power shooters. Any load from the list should work in your application.

25.3 Varget, 25.5 RE15, 25.0 H4895, 25.0 8208.

Your 1-9 will probably stabilize the 77's too. 75's for sure. ( not amax)
Two different 1/9 twist bolt actions I have had would. A win M70 HV and a M700 5R.

define midrange...
69 is not a great 500 yd bullet
75/77 would be a better choice
1/9 will require some testing for tipped 75's and most 77's

( my 300 yd plus ar is 27" krieger bbl 1/7 twist and hornady 75 match with win sorted new brass, tula 223 primers, powder is to be determined)

Lake City Brass,
69 Grain Sierra MK
CCI-450's or Rem-7 1\2
8208XBR work up to the published MAX or higher if your chamber allows.
2.60 col or longer

Groups nice out to 600 yards with no winds.

Works in 3 Bolt action 1-9 factory Savages for me.

Stacy & I have arrived at the exact same load with H4895. Works rather well in AR's as well.

My 26" barrel is 3000 fps with the 69 SMK's.

LC brass
24.6 grns RE 15
Rem 7 1/2 primers
COL 2.260.

Not super fast, 2800 fps out of my AR with 20 in. Shilen barrel and 3000 fps out of my savage 30 inch bolt action. Very accurate out to 500 yards if winds are light.

Sav-12 (223) 1-9
25grains H4895
69smk
Cci-400 primer
LC-11 cases
Seated @ 2.274"oal
2.898"coal
Start lower work up good luck!

good starting load for a 223 69gr MK, 24grs of RL 15, rem 7.5, seated as long as you can and still fit the magazine. Just off the lands if singleshot. This is a starting load, mine worked up to 25.0grs, Varget is another good one for this bullet.

have just completed the same loading , and the powder is: reloader 15 hands down for accuracy and good pressures.

My 1 in 9 twist HATES RL15 with 69 smks. Iv got some 52 SMKS and 50 grain Barnes varmint Grande. Best powders iv found is ramshot x-terminator. I cant seem to find anything else, anyone have other suggestions on 223 powders up a 55 grain?

Ramshot TAC, N133, AA2460, CFE 223, Varget, AR-Comp, H335, H322, Benchmark, IMR-3031, BL(C)-2, check out the powder manf. websites, there are a lot of options.

I live in an area where I can get 1lb of just about anything, but that 2nd lb or more might take forever. I have a lot of "working" loads and a few substitute F-TR Mid Range loads that I bounce between.

IMR-3031 tends to be on the shelf here often as most larger caliber loaders pass it up. Works very well in 222 and 223 up to 69gr.
