.223/5.56 pet load for Sierra 55g?

Got 500 Sierra 55g Blitzking's to try and take care of some Coyotes.

Who's got a good load? My AR load experience is surprisingly limited to 77/80g bullets.

I have Varget/AR-Comp/N140/H4895/8208

The coyotes are going to hate it.....

These all tracked very well in typical predator bolt rigs. Your H4895 should give at least an average performance and in some rigs is excellent. I didn't use Varget for varmint hunting loads since I find myself always conserving it for match guns or serious hunting.

ARComp was a pleasant surprise too. It works out well under the 55gr Blitz. I was always near their published max of 25.5 plus or minus when I hit a node. And like Varget, this one does well in cold weather and in hot.
ETA: I used the ARComp at mag length in an AR platform.

I get .5 MOA and 3200 fps with Hornady 55 grn Boattails using the Hodgdon starting load of 25 grn H4895 CCI450 primers and RP brass. Seated at the cannelure and lightly crimped for a 20 in AR15.

You will probably get the best results out of H4895 and AR-Comp follow closely by 8208xbr. Those are the faster burning powders on your list and will work best with your 55 grain pills. I would suggest doing your own workup instead of taking someone elses load. You can end up chasing your tail and wasting components doing that.

Of the powders you've listed, I have used Varget and H4895 with 50 and 55 grain bullets in 9 - 12" twist rifles, and 60 Vmax's in 8" twists with outstanding results.

I mostly use H4895 these days and it does an excellent job for me over these ranges of twists and bullet weights.

A fellow shooter I know uses 8208xbr which he swears by and rightfully so after some of the groups I've seen him shoot.

Although not listed in your list, H335 is outstanding also in the 223 Rem if you don't mind some temperature issues since it's a ball powder.

I wish I had some! I've only ever had a 1lb'er of it - used it for a 42g nosler ballistic tip I found at cabelas. Those things rocked! 1 hole groups at 100 yards out of a so-so AR15

I use TAC powder and normally the old load of 24.5-25gr of it with a 55gr bullet... It's pretty much the only thing I load for the AR platform.... There's better but TAC flows like water through a powder dropper... It also will flow very well across your loading bench and into the carpet so be careful..lol

Many years ago on one of the forums it was posted that a .223 would shoot 55’s at 3600. He got a lot of flack from the usual naysayers. He said what load. I tried it and he was right. My 223 at that time was a 26” Shilen 14 twist with no freebore. VV powder was the deal..... 27.5 / VV135 / 7-1/2 / IMI brass and 55gr BlitzKing. Best load where it all came together was at 3628, a 3/16” group. Through my 26” min chamber Shilen zero

At the end I was attempting to re-arrange the post and pushed the wrong thing on my phone. Nice about vv135 is it burns very cool on the heat scale.
