223 1x9 start ?

Good day.

I have a Rem SPS Tactical 1 in 9 twist in a KRG X=Ray chassis that I would like to tune. I have a number of 52 and 69 SMKs. Some Varget, H4895, H4198, Lt32 .
Where would you guys start ?

thanks Link

Varget, 8208, & RL15 for 69, tho IMR 4895 also works well. For 52s both 4895s and 3031 as well as 748 have worked for me. My Rem 1 x 9 also shoots Hornady 75s well with Varget and RL 15.

+1 on the 4198 (pain to trickle up) & the 52's..... Though I prefer the 52 gr. Bergers for smaller groups.

I put this together to shoot offhand. Now I'm trying to tune it off the bench. It showed promise with 52s over 27 of Varget now I guess I will try some H powders. The 69s didn't seem to work so well. How about some favored loads ?

24.0gr Varget and a 75gr Hornady HPBT; that load has worked very well in every 1:9 223 bolt gun I've ever owned.

The 69/68 gr. with RE-15 or Varget in a 1:9 were made for each other. 23 to 24.5 gr will find the load for you barrel.

Have 24", 1:9" bolt rifle and AR, and prefer relatively conservative loads. I use the HDY 75gr HPBTM bullet over 23.7gr of Varget. Limited to 250yd, but this load works well in both rifles.

Given your parameters;
23 th 25 H 4895 w/ 69's depending on your seating OAL
20 - 21 I 4198 w/52's " " "
23.5 th 25 H 322 w/52's " " " "
My Savage w/ a 26" 1/9 Bbl. seams to like all 69's including the "Prvi Partisan", and H 75 BTHP's best out to 200 yds.
at 300 it's H 75's and Nos. 77's with N-135 & N-140's

I have the same gun, but in an old Rem XC (HS Prec) stock and I run an Elite Iron can.

Mine has shot the old and new tipped SMK 69's very well with 26.0 of VARGET and a 205M primer in Lapua cases. Getting 2850 fps which is about IT for a 20" bbl.
