223 @ 1040 yards

Took the R700 223 Wylde with 80.5g Bergers out again this evening. Shot 10 rounds at 1040 yards at the 20" plate. CB was just over the top, the next 9 is what you see. Wind was pretty light at 1-2mph and consistent, but every now and again it would pick up just a tad. 8 of the 10 went into around 10" Not great, not horrible. I'll take it for what it is.

Thank you sir.

No, it's 3/8" AR500 pretty heavy. I had it leaned up agsinst a post. I could only really hear like half the impacts. I could see every one of them though. Might be able to hear it better if it was hanging, not sure. I typically just fix them to a T-post mount, so even then they're still not suspended or hanging. I think a 1/4" piece of AR500 would do better for the 223 at 1K far as hearing impacts.

Damn!! I wish.

I think I was at 40x on one 5 shot series, and then 30x or 35x the second. 50x is a bit too dark for my liking, small FOV, and unforgiving eye box tends to have me around 30-40x most days. S&B does have some pretty amazing glass.

Average muzzle velocity over the previous 25 rounds was 2970fps at about 70 degrees. For some reason yesterday the 10 shot average was 2940fps at 85 degrees. The ES/SDs on 223s is quite stupid really. I'm not going to worry about it, because it's impossible to fix. Just is what it is. I believe the targets. On any given day the ES can be 10-60fps on this load. Still shoots at or under 1/2 MOA out to 600 easy.

I came up 30 MOA from a 200y zero and dialed left 1 MOA for wind/spin drift.

What kind of rear bag do you have

Thanks for sharing good info seams like I never have a good ES and my target doesn’t seam to care either

Great data, nice shooting.

Thank you sir.

Curious to see how my 75g ELDMs will do comparatively. I have a nice load worked up with them at 3000fps with N540 as well. They both shoot pretty much identical from 1-300 for 10 shot groups. I just need to finish off these Bergers and it's back to the 75 ELDMs. I bought the Bergers to see what, if any I was leaving on the table accuracy wise. The 75s were pretty finicky to tune and they have a short seating depth window that works. The 80.5 Bergers only have a powder charge work up and were set 20 off the lands. Way less picky than the ELDM in this rifle, and probably the way it generally is given the different ogive styles.

Looking forward to your test results. It is quite amazing what the little. 223 can do at distance with good loads. Good shooting.
