.22 rimfire at 400 yards

I was taking a break from chukar hunting the other day and had a 400 yard range all to myself, swinging metal targets included. Started at 100 yards just to check the zero. No problem. Dialed into 200, piece of cake. Went to 300 and needed to hold on a mark above the target and on the burm. Wind was an issue but it was consistent but most of the time I could keep them on a 10" plate. Went to 400 and I would have been lucky to have kept them on a barn door. Bullets were wandering everywhere. This was with some bulk federal supersonic stuff out of a 20" Kidd (lothar walther) barrel on a 10/22. With wolf match the groups are good close, but it seems like the faster loads help out far. Just thought I would share that. Anyone else tried and had any success out that far?

My CZ would require 63.5 up to make that shot with the 510B that it likes. I'm not putting a NF on my 22 :D

I've shot CCI SV consistantly to 200 and hit a 4" plate every time. Past that it's all guess work for me.

Fun stuff! I like to pick up those big jumbo packs of extra large birthday ballons at wally world and tie them to hay bails and shot them at long ranges with my Henry .22lr with a 3-9X40 nikon prostaff. I dont even adjust the scope just check the wind and aim high!

As per the hay bales/balloons; it sounds like fun, but keep those hay bales out of the critter food chain after that! My mules will eat about anything, but lead isn't all that good for them. http://forum.accurateshooter.com/Smileys/default/shocked.gif When the bales rot down, they make for great soil amendment.

I have a 200 yrd target that was shot by a friend that shots no more, he`s 91, but it is scored 100 on a 50 yrs target at 200 yrds. I have it posted in my vault. He gave it to me when I bought the rifle he shot it with, an old model 39 Rem.

Was at the range last week and watched a fellow 22 F class shooter pop stationary clay targets at 300 yards from the bench with astounding regularity. If memory serves, I believe he said he had to increase the elevation 27 MOA from his normal 100 yard zero using Wolf Target ammo. The rifle was a 22 rimfire REM 40X topped with a Leupold 10X target scope.

Talk about a hoot............

On my property out in Wyoming I was shooting my 10-22 at 440 yards. Shooting a bleach jug with a black + on it I became very accurate. I have a 6-24 Mil-Dot on it. Had alot of fun.

There is no reason for a 22 to be tumbling @ 300 except shooting the Aguila 60gr out of a 1in16 twist.

I can reference ~500 plinking with this setup--Ruger Mk III/2x Nikon handgun scope rated at 120 MOA up [160 measured] in the turret/ Burris Signature rings with +/-20 in front and rear nets me about 40 MOA forward tilt. .013" credit card shim in the back lower ring nets me another 15 MOA or so allowing me about 140 useable--

We were out last week coyote hunting and thought to try it off a low rise on the prairie shooting at cow pies at lasered range to 400, and using my "generic .1 BC/1200 mv handgun ballistics profile" almost every shot was quite close to the selected tgts. at each range. This really is a great setup since the plex reticle in this optic subtends 20 MOA and provides for a relatively accurate system of windage reference.
