222s, show yours

I'm down to one 222 the standard BDL, the 222 I got used and traded my well used bull elk slayer rifle for it, a 700 BDL 7 mm Remington mag...it was a fair trade...worth about $125...at the time.
Varmint Special BDL I bought for $199 new, is now a 6 dasher with a new bolt. Used to run moly coated 40 gr nosler BT at 3750 fps back in the day by the thousands...the 222 Varmint Special barrel was toast.

Bought this rifle 3 weeks ago on gunbroker, Tikka master sporter 222. I was able to pick it up today. I can’t find any evidence it was ever used or even shot. Crown is immaculate, bolt face is as new, no wear on the bolt or lugs. Pretty happy about this one, I’ve been after this rifle for a long time. Can’t wait to put together a load or two and see what it does. I have an Burris Signature that I think will look right and serve the purpose, start with that anyways.

pls keep us informed on progress. good purchase.

I rescued and restored this .222 Br gun. It was a Hart built Remington 40x. Action has a partial sleeve and was a glue in build. Chamber is tight neck. The stock paint was original 1970s and was in rough shape. A friend who paints custom and race cars volunteered to repaint it.
I'm not particularly a bench rest shooter but this rifle shoots really well.

It’s cold today but there isn’t any wind so I wanted to try the rifle out. Shot two five shot groups with a load of VV133, 50 grain ballistic tips, 205Ms and Lapua brass. My fingertips were numb on the first group, went and warmed them up and put a hand heater in my jacket for the second group, made a difference. I‘ve used that combo with success with other 222s but I’ll try some other loads too. I’m sure with some playing around this rifle would shoot very small. For me it’s more about SD, ES as long as were shooting under .5 moa. I didn’t chrono any of these, I will in the next session though.

This thread ‘helped’ me build my 222 project over the last year. The stock finally arrived so it’s basically done now.

Tikka T3x action
Bartlein LV barrel, about 24”, 1:12 I think because it was available
.222 / .250 neck chamber by Bob Green
Timney 2 stage trigger
Manners PRS Tikka stock with bedding block and AI mag bottom metal
Vortex 5-25x50

Shot nice tight groups on the factory plastic stock, going to test in the heavier and much sturdier Manners this weekend.

That’s a beautiful rifle. I think you’ll have a lot of fun with that one!

Just got this one from the gunsmith, was a gift from my wife since i lost almost all my other guns, reloading equipment, reloading supplies, tools, SxS, etc,etc to a shop fire. So starting from scratch and trying to locate components is a nightmare but my collar bone surgery was a complete success. Parts for this build were donated by the very kind folks of my local gun club, i cannot thank them enough. Blueprinted Rem 700 action, Bartlein 1-14 twist barrel LV contour, HS Precision stock, TriggerTech special and i got the leupold 6.5-20 off this wonderful sight.20230930_084455.jpg20230930_084458.jpg20230930_084506.jpg

Heres five of my 222s. When I was young my Uncle had a Sako Vixen and once and a while he would let me and my cousins handle it. It sat in one of those gun cabinets that looked more like furniture with glass doors. He had some other rifles but that 222 always centered my attention. I think it was because of how small the action and forend was and for some of the shots he made with that rifle. I spent much of days when I was teenager reading every hunting magazine and firearms magazine I could. I won Grand Champion at the country Fair with my 4-H steer when I was in the eighth grade and bought the ADL you see at the bottom. I guess I’ve always loved 222s, accurate, no recoil and just plain cool. Got one? Share a pic, I’d love to see what’s out there.

Top to bottom

Sako
Anshutz
Krico
Remington BDL from the 60s
Remington ADL from the 60s, it rode in every truck I’ve had since I could drive.
which one is most accurate?
