As seen on hunting rifles thread, here is my Tikka T3 Super Varmint .222 rem. With GRS Sporter laminate stock, Sako TRG Bipod, 2-stage trigger, Atlasworx aluminium trigger guard/bottom metal. Scope is Steiner Ranger 4-16*56. On picture with basic magazine, also have Lucky13 ten rounds magazine.
Next week I'll get bolt fluted by gunsmith so then it will be ready for a while.
Shoots quite well for a factory rifle. 5 shots on 150m range, wind was 4 m/s, shot on bipods. Picture is rotated 90 degrees, so that one flyer was caused by wind. Bullet was Lapua S569 3,6g FMJ, Vihtavuori N130 powder and Sako brass. I'll get better results with Sierra HPBT 52gr bullets but for black grouse hunting FMJ is better choice.

Boy I love that rifle setup.

Is the two stage trigger a factory trigger option?

David

Thanks,

2-stage trigger is not factory option for Super Varmint. I did purchase 2-stage used from my friend who did not like it on his TAC A1. Lucky for me, I prefer 2-stage more.

I’m the same as you in that regard. I’ve always wanted a .222, and your build inspired me to look for a Tikka action. I’m already a fan of GRS stocks and I have two rifles in GRS Hybrids.

GRS is just made for me :) I was looking for Hybrid but it was not available at that time. I did grind forend bottom flat so it is easier to shoot with bags. Also changed ordinary sling swivel studs to Kinetic Research QD sling cups for Magpul QD sling. And machined adapter for bipod, Sako TRG bipod needs its own kind of attachment.

This was my first rifle that I bought with my own money in 1982 or 84. This is also when I started reloading for my rifle as my dad said you bought it you feed it. I was 12 or 14. Its been nothing but a giant rabbit hole ever since.:(:)

There is nothing to dislike about a 222. They are incredible. Built this one on a Marlin XS7 action with a Green Mountain Barrel. Factory trigger, now wearing a B&L 6-24x40. Prairie Dogs hate it :)

American Arms Combo gun by Marrochi 12ga/222 extremely accurate and is now doing duty with a friend killing turkeys and coyotes. I've upgraded to a pair of combos one a BRNO in 12ga/22 Sav. Highpower and the other a Bernardelli in 12ga/5.6x50R MagcVWfxg.jpg

My Trip2 is an old model Sako. It says Riihimaki on the side of the receiver. Tried dating it back via serial number and it seems to be about 80 years old. We bought it out of an deceased estate.

It's great fun to shoot and it's always in the truck on the farm. Great for Varminting and I also sometimes shoot antelope for meat in the house. A 50gr Vmax to the noggin switches the lights off nicely.

Few mods like a suppressor and Boltknob makes shooting it an absolute pleasure. Topped of with a Leupold VX-3 4.5-14x with the Varmint Hunters Reticle which makes shots out to 300yds a breeze, provided the wind is calm.

A friend of mine's son shot this Red Hartebees Bull with a perfect head shot @ about 170yds. Potent little calibre if one stays within effective range.

Running 50gr Vmax @ 3250fps and it's a 3/4 MOA gun any day of the week. For a 80y/o gun that's not even bedded that's very acceptable in my opinion.

Cheers from South Africa

Regards
Frans

Frans, one of the things I'd love to do is spend some time in SA shooting varmints (spelled m-o-n-k-e-y-s).

I've watched some videos. It looks very challenging, and beneficial as well.

I’d love to get in on that too! Watched quite a few videos.

Remington Model 725, .222 manufactured in 1960. Remington built the 725 for about 4 years before going to the 700. About 1,475 were built in .222. This model has hand checkering, floor plate and a three position safety. Had the rifle since it was new. Shoots extremely well with H322 and Berger 52 gr. bullets. Plans were to use it in hunter class groundhog match competition at 100, 200 and 300 yards. Scope on it is a Leupold 24x which is the maximum magnification allowed.
