222rem pt3 final questions

I've got everything squared away of what I'm going to use except for one thing.

Brass.

Questions:
What is the brass life like on 222rem. How many firings can you get? I'd like to get 2-300 pieces. Would that be enough to get 4-5000 firings?

I'm going to put a wanted ad for lapua 222rem. I'm anal about components. I want them all the same lot.

What brass are you all using? Can Starline compare to Lapua? Let's say I buy a bunch of Starline and then sort them and cull the bad ones. Would it still not be on the level of Lapua? I'm trying to achieve competition level accuracy, and if Starline isn't capable then I'd rather pay someone a premium for Lapua.

Thank you to everyone over the past month for answering all my questions on the 222rem! I learned a lot. Especially about powder choices and twist rates.

So far I've got over 20 firings on Lapua brass and still going strong. After firing, the brass can still be easily chambered so I don't have to bump the shoulders at all. I use a bushing full die just to resize the neck. I anneal every time.

Starline is good..
I reformed some Starline 222 to my little 20-221AI-
Haven’t lost a primer yet!! Some with 25 firings on them..!!! Still going strong- I anneal every firing, bushing F/L sized
The rim is thicker than Lapua (on 221brass) - usually rips/bends on priming/ extraction.. have no problems w/ Starline.

Wow that's nuts. I have only shot Starline in an AR, and thought it was great. Glad to hear it holds up that well.

I shot Norna brass back in the 70's and still have about 100 pices and will shoot it in my 222 with a new barrel I would guess they have 50 firings , but I never load max .

I have both Lapua and Starline, I prefer the Lapua. That being said the Starline is very consistent, primer pockets, weight, length is much better than average. I don’t shoot competition and I don’t know the level of accuracy you’re after, I’m not sure Lapua is gonna be much more accurate than Starline. I use Starline in a couple rifles, one is an old Tikka Master Sporter than shoots in the .2s with both Starline and Lapua.

Lapua is hard to get so you might save some time and grief by trying 100 pieces of Starline and seeing what ya think.

Below is a copy and paste from a recent post from forum member Randy Robinett. He seemed pretty happy with Starline. ⬇️⬇️

For a new .222 Rem. project, I recently purchased a "set" (series) of five bushings at 0.001" intervals: I got three bushing sizes . . . that's why I ordered from two suppliers and two brands, hoping to get the size(s) I wanted. o_O

Before ordering/specifying the new reamer, I opted to purchase some of the Starline brass. I was pleasantly surprised by the uniformity of the neck-wall thickness: the worst, measured across the heel of seated bullets, featured <0.0003" variation, and the majority <0.0002". Using FB .2241" diameter bullets, loaded-round neck diameters ranged between 0.2500" and 0.2503" - just about perfect for a .2520" necked chamber.:) RG

I ended up scoring 2 unopened same lot boxes of Lapua on here last night. However, I think if I enjoy the bench version of the 222rem I'll end up making a varmint rig and use starline
