.222 VS .223 in removable magazines.

I have been reading a few places where people complain that they cannot get the long bullets they want to shoot from magazines to feed due to overall length.

I know the cases quote a lower pressure than .223 or 5.56 but are they possible just as tough?

I am assuming these guys are wanting the longer bullets for the better BC for long range shooting.

I guess my question is could them use .222 to get the longer bullets and are they going to lose so much powder capacity that they cannot more the bullets fast enough to gain anything from the heavier bullet?

Lets say one of these AR guys wants to shoot 1000 yards and not modify the magazines. Would he be better off to stay with 5.56 or can he gain by going to .222 and loading the longest of bullets.

On a side note. How about .222 necked up to 6mm vs .223 necked up to 6mm. Would this be flatter shooting yet than the .224 combinations?

Not enough powder space in the .222 case to push the heavy bullets fast enough. The long range events are fired single shot anyway.

You want a good long range bullet for the .223 Rem. that will load at magazine length,2.26")? Try the 73gr. Berger or the 77gr. SMK.

The 6x45,6mm-.223) used to be kind of popular until the high-BC bullets in .224 dia. hit the scene. At long range you can do better with a .223 and the 80gr. SMK, Nosler, or Berger than you can with any 6mm bullet that will work in a .223 case.
