222 to 6.5x47 lapua conversion

My cousin may be selling me his remington 600 mohalk target rifle in .222. I want to convert it to a 6.5x47 Lapua for long range target shooting. I am aware that i would need a new bolt and would buy a good quality target barrel but is there anything else i need to know?

You can have the bolt face opened up to handle the bigger 6,5x47 case.
No need to purchase a new bolt

Not going to worry about the conversion now. going to keep to mohalk as is and built a 6.5x47 Lapua from scratch. Does anyone know where I can get a howa action only for .308, .22-250, .243 etc to use for my 6.5x47 Lapua that im building. My friend made his from a weatherby 308 action but the gunsmith told him that howa is a better action. If anyone knows where i can get a howa action only please let me know. Thanks

The Howa is definitely capable of being rebarreled as a target gun.

Very light but extremely stiff, weight of 1.5lbs with sporter stock. Here's a pic of my very latest toy- put the kids' .223 Remmy into one of their stocks and man, what an improvement ignoring the major weight loss:

Yes the Howa is a good action, mine is very accurate with a 6,5x47 barrel. But the firing pin hole is big, expect cratering or even piercing with the SR primers in this high pressure chambering.

You might want to consider a Tikka 595.

Your local FFL should be able to order the barreled action from their distributor (most carry Legacy Sports products, the importer of Howa).
