222 Remington powders

My old Remington 722 did well with most powders in the medium burn range. But it really came alive when I tried H4895. First group was .375 (5 shots) at 100yds, which is all I can ask for a hunting rifle with a skinny factory barrel. Quite a few coyotes were not happy about this situation!

Thanks for that gem, at a propitious time. I did some stock work on an old collector grade model 70 for a guy. When he came to pick it up, he asked how much, I told him “You brought me glazed donuts! I’m good.” He grumbled some and left. Half an hour later, he’s back. He gets out of his truck and hands me a gun. Says “I know you like Remingtons.” Gets back in his truck and leaves! I’m standing in the driveway holding a beautiful old 700 in 222 with my jaw on the ground.

Josh,
What a nice old classic Remington! I see some fun days ahead with your new toy.

looks like a tie between lLT2 and N133. But , a lot of others might work as well. Primers are a separate but equal problem as well.

I have used various primers in mine as well as powders, I don’t recall it ever shooting over MOA @100. I shot some various 50 grain bullets with same OAL same powder different primers, it was ridiculous. 222’s just shoot

Thanks. I am going to enjoy it. Date code seems to indicate it was put together in 1973. It’s immaculate on the outside, not a ding or rubmark on it. Tomorrow I’m going to clean it and scope the barrel.
Interestingly, the barrel is free floated except for a “pressure point” about 2” in from the end of the stock. I’m going to shoot it as is and see what it will do.

Mine came alive when I bedded the stock and floated the barrel. I also had to remove the last 2" of barrel as it had some pitting in the bore. No biggie as it was a 26" barrel to begin with. A little overkill for a .222. Lol. I believe the new crown may have helped as well. Happy shooting bud!
