222 Remington brass

I would like to purchase 100 or 200 rounds of new Lapua brass.

Is there anyone out there with a stock pile that would like to share some?

Just got me a Deuce and having a good time so far!!

Thanks,
Tony

taxman: I was fortunate to be able to lay in a supply of 222 Lapua while it was still available, have 2 rifles in 222, so must keep it, but have tried Winchester and found it to be very good. Much better than Remington, not quite as good as Lapua. I would not hesitate to use the Winchester, if I did not have the Lapua. Incidently: one of my most consistant accuracy loads for both 222s' has been 22.2 grs. H322 with any quality 50 gr. bullet seated .020" off the lands. This is the accuracy load listed on Hodgdons' can label, and it works! tried the traditional load,s) with 4198, and while very good, the H322 is better: in my rifles, always that disclaimer). Great round-- too bad it does not get the respect that it deserves.

Try Mr. Joe Ponto @ RPS. Just ordered some, still hurting a leetle!!!

Sinclair International sells Norma cases in 222,about $85 per 100). I know Norma is the parent company for Lapua, but I've never tried Norma brass. Instead I've opted for the "cheaper" Lapua. Has anyone here tried the Norma version? If so, how did it perform?

Lapua is part of the NAMMO/Lapua group, based in Finland.

Norma is based in Sweden, and is a subsidiary of RUAG, a registered corporation whose holding company is in Berne, Switzerland. It has production sites in Switzerland, Germany and Sweden. RUAG Ammotec marekts the brands RWS®, Rottweil®, GECO®, Norma® and Hirtenberger®.

Two different companies and the brass is produced in completely different factories.

Over the years I have read a lot of bad reports about the Lapua 222 Rem cases. Apparantly they were subcontracted out and not up to normal Lapua standards, like the older 223 Rem stuff). Do a search over at benchrestcentral and other sites over the past few years. I wouldn't waste time and money on these older Lapua 222 cases.

I have had excellent luck with Winchester 222 cases. Mine have been very consistent and extremely durable. I took one of these cases, necked it down to 20 caliber, fired it with a full load of N133 at 4000 fps with a 32 gr VMax sixteen times. At the end of the sixteen firings the case had only grown .005", the neck was perfect, and the primer pocket was as tight as the first firing.

I also use these Winchester 222 cases to form all of my 221 FB and 17 FB cases. Great stuff. No need for anything else in my opinion.

I recently purchased Norma cases from Sinclair. So far have fired a group of 5 cases 10 times with a stiff load of 133. No failures and no loose primer pockets.

Good brass, very consistent just a bit pricey, but I have more in the rifle and scope?

Same with me. I've tried e-mailing, no response. Tried calling land line, mail box full. Don't know if he's out of town or what???

One thing that I have found with my last two batches of the Norma brass is that they have had .060" flash holes in them. I have tested my loads with them, and they are shooting with a noticeably tighter core group. This would indicate that the loads like the smaller flash hole and I have been using a small diameter primer punch to knock primers out. Not all of the lots that I have bought in Norma have been this way, but I am always glad when I can get them this way. This was something that I never saw with the Lapua brass, when it was available.

Cordially,
Bob Blaine

My brass arrived today. Looks like Joe sent it when he said he would and it just took some time at customs!

Thanks
Tony
