222 REM

Pull my finger
222 REM is my all time favorite varmint rifle. I have a CZ 527 in a HS Precisions stock.. Been shootin 40 gr Nosler BTs forever. Got a wild hair a while back and worked up a 52 Sierra load using lapua brass, and IMR4198. This thing is like shooting a laser. Crosshairs on squeeze.. lights out.. I took it out the last few days P-dawgin and had a blast.. Thinned the P-dawgsa out a bit too.. 200 yard max? No way I made shots much farther than that. Jus \t adjust my point of aim and wham!!

Trying to decide what rig for short range tomorrow...222, 22K, 17HMR, 22PPC. I sure do like the 222. I shoot 50 Grain TNT in mine, and the 52 works nice for group but I never had luck with it on chucks...it never seemed to open up well.

Seems like you got it worked out. I love my 222

Yup just love the caliber, ever since a bud brought out a Remington 222 in the 80's. I finally bought one about ten or so years ago. Nice caliber.. I have yet to try the 52 Sierra's on P-dawgs, cause I have been shooting up all my 40 grains.. Just ordered another `100 pieces of Lapua brass.. Need to get busy loading as i am down to my last half box of ammo.

Snert, I usually pack a 22 pistiol, 17 HMR or 22 mag, and the 222.

I just went in the "room" and installed a stud into the stock of my 222 for sling. I got two new farms today, mostly under 250 yard shooting, some will be 17HMR stuff. I thought about the K-hornet, but I did not want to put a hole in the stock of it tonight...too tired...and will need to hike a bit, so sling is necessary. I seldom walk anywhere. just drive in, set up bench and haul out bigger guns. But it looks like I am headed back to my youth. Like someone posted recently "huff and puff and hope to hit it". So I picked the 222. If no rain tomorrow, i am finally getting out...fields just now getting cut.

BTW nice Sako there Drop Port

I need to take a camera tomorrow

We have 2 223's. Son has a Savage 12 that shoots lights out, I have an AR.. Still the 222 is handier, as teh Savage 12's we have are long barreled and heavy.. Just something about the triple duece

The first one I had I put over 10k rnds thru it till the best it would do was a softball size group at 200 yds. That was on a factory 722 with a sporter bbl. Now its a custom with a 3" forearm carbon fiber dipped stock and a 10-50 sIII with a 20" McGowen bbl. I love it just as much as the original.

I love the 222!
Wish I had a family pic to share as I have a few bolt actions, a semi auto, and a pump all in the triple duece
Obviously I need a single shot as well as a XP-100 in the same caliber

Is that a Sako?

Yes a 1966 Vixen I picked up about 10 years ago new in the box. A great find, a friend of mine bought out inventory from a store that closed in the late 60's and everything was stored since. 222's, 222 mags, 243's and some foresters. They sold like hot cakes!

I just walked in from a G-hog hunt. 4 1/2 hours and 16 confirmed, two possibles. All except one with the 222. One with K hornet. Ranges from 113 to 380. Most at 225-275. Photos tomorrow in new thread!

Love the duece

The 222 is a great cartridge. I shot one for many years hunting ghogs. When I wore the barrel out (not just shooting ghogs) I rebarreled to a 223 Rem for a little more velocity.

Out to 250 yards the 222 worked great for me. My favorite load was IMR 4195, 50 grain Sierra Blitz, Remington 7 1/2 primers. My Rem 700 would group in the 1/2 moa range with a sporter weight barrel.

I'd sure like to find that exact setup in 222 MAG just for something different.
