222 Missing from Accurate Shooter Home Page

If you look at the left side vertical column on the Accurate Shooter homepage, you will notice something missing from the list of cartridges. That is 222 Rem. There are historical details, suggested loads and plenty of information for .223, .204, 22 BR etc. but to mention of the 222. Why is that?

What would be in there?

Take any 50-52gr bullet and load it in front of 20.5gr of 4198 and go shoot .5moa? :)
Letting folks know how and what to use to expect .1" and better groups. Far to many don't know how .uch better other powders work, and trust me, in 1-14 twist barrels there are better bullets than the 50 to 53 grain.

Lots of 222 info most aren't aware of!

In the early days of the F/TR discipline with its 223 Rem/308 Win limitation, some of our (UK) gunsmiths built rifles for a group of Spanish shooters. At that time, Spanish civilians couldn't own 223 or 308 rifles as their government classed the cartridges as 'military calibres'.

When Spanish shooters built a number of short to medium distance civilian owned and operated ranges to really get into prone and BR shooting, not all wanted to shoot 'non-military' F-Open type cartridges, and whilst there are no easy 308 Win replacements, the 222 Rem is pretty close to 223. For a few years, 222 was a popular mid-range match cartridge employed in long fast-twist barrels and long-throat chambers for heavy bullets, ie developed exactly as per 223 F/TR developments. I never personally saw such a beast, but I'm reliably told they performed extremely well in both precision and MVs. Whether this situation / practice still applies, I don't know as Spanish firearms laws changed and 223/308 are now legal and viable match cartridges, as in most countries.
