222 magnum improved and other type cases

i see that these were the norm back in the day before the ppc .my question is how fase did they push the bullets then witjh the loads the used.also what would the average barrel lengths be on those guns in the light varnilt class.i saw several heAVY VARMINT RIFLES WITH THE OLD SHILEN ACTION ONTHEM ON THE SHOOTERS CORNER SIGHT.THOUGHTS ON THESE ACTIONS

From my understanding the ppc tends to do better at longer ranges. I was just reading an older precision shooting article arguing which was better.
I’ve been watching the shooters corner as well, although I may end up buying a used Bat machine. From talking to other guys it’s really hard to believe round count through barrels and you almost have to factor in getting a new barrel put on unless you borescope it.
 
If you are looking at the four lug Shilens and the Superiors, you are looking at guns made in the 1960's.

Buy the Superior if you want to go down the old Skool road.

And you are looking at 3300 ish, and if higher, shorter brass life in the primer pocket.
 
Watch brass too. Most of the load data was developed with the Rem brass. The Nosler brass is thicker and will jump pressure up if a direct switch is made in ref. to the load. As an opinion, the Nosler brass is good but the price difference is not worth it. Of course, when you can only find one thing....
