.222 loads for 50 grain bullets

My first .222 Rem. In 722 Remington almost 50 years ago. Now have an like new 722 in .222.
Used 50 grain and BLC or 4198 then.
What is or are the best powders being used now with the same weight bullet?

I'm in Australia and have used a load of 24gns of ADI Bench Mark 2 over 50 to 52gn pills for over 20 years in several different .222's and they all love it.
I believe BM2 is the same as Hodgdon Benchmark, but dont quote me on that

I just bought an old Remington 700 ADL in .222 a few weeks ago (1983 manufacture). I took it to the range and worked BM2 up 0.3gns at a time until i hit 24gns and was not surprised when it dropped them all in one hole.

Back in the 70's thru 80's my varmint rifles in .222 also shot well with BLC-2 and IMR 4198. These days my best powder is N-133 in a HV BR rig. However, just like it is in the 6 PPC it is a bear to keep in tune depending on the RH....it still goes goofy below 30%.
I plan to revisit IMR 4198 and also try H-4895.
One load that seems to always work is 22.2 gr./ H-322, but how well is dependent on the powder lot (burn rate varies, and H-322 is one of the most inconsistent through the years).
One constant, in my experience, is that all my .222 barrels shoot best with the bullet jumped .06".

If you can search and check the old benchrest results and equipment lists from back in the deuce days, you'll see that 21g IMR 4198 was pretty much king.

as Shelton indicated the 21 gr load of imr 4198 was king, -- it was in a yellow can. then the plant making 4198 blew up and was rebuilt. after that the cans were painted Red to show them of the later manufacture.

the Red can version was a bit hotter and most folks dropped back to 20.5br with the 52/53 hp for match br.

do not compare the current 4198 with any of the older ones, there is no way to tell the difference in burn rate. that doesnot mean don't tru 4198 just work up to a comfortable pressure level, all 222's seem to love a jump of .020 -.030.

So far I also have been very happy in both a 722 and an Anschutz 1532 with VVN 133 and 52 gr Bergers. I shoot at nickels and dimes at 200 yards.

I am long time shooter of several deuces. My present bench gun load is 19.4 gr of IMR 4198.
This can be tuned up in cooler weather to 19.5.
Bullet 52 Sierra match or barts. Both touching the lands.
I had good success with the old Federal Nickel match brass, I now use lapua.
The new Remington nickel match are similar weight to the federals but I have not had the same results.
