222 brass

Does anyone shoot a 222? I was needing some brass info i have been using rem and win brass all of the time but i have run into a problem the load that my gun has just started to love is 25gr of Varget but with the rem or win brass i cannot drop that load from my powder measure not even with a six inch drop tube the only way i can get that much powder in is pouring by hand real slow . What i was wondering if anyone knows if the Laupa brass had a little more case capacity ?

I bought some .222 brass from Lapua. First impression not nuch. Flash holes are drilled off center. Hornady manual calls 25 grn of Varget a compressed charge with 53 grn bullets. Compressed means at least 3/4 up the neck. What did you notice any better with 25 grn. If you like max volume powder in a deuce switch to 4895 or 748. Some of my best accuracy with the .222 was with 4198.

I have shoot all of the powders that you listed plus many more and the Varget beats them all in the accuracy dept my deuce does not like alot of velocity about 3000fps is all it will take and keep everything where i want it in the 2 to 3 range also the Varget has the least amount of ES and SD of the rest of the powders the only thing that comes close is N133 and N135 but both of them shoot at about .750 and thats not what i want the 748 is about the best hunting load but it is not as consistant as the Varget the 25gr load just want dump out of my measure and i hate to cut back to 24gr and give up the fps the 25gr load is just running 2985fps

I just bought some Lapua .222 brass also--already formed it for a .17-222. I wouldn't buy it again and would've returned it if I hadn't opened all of the boxes before inspecting them. Sorry I can't help much more than that.

I haven't seen any of it yet, maybe someone else has, but I'm going to try RWS .222 brass for my next batch.

Never tried Varget in a .222, 25grs has to be a tight fit no matter what brand name brass you have. I have a Rem 40X single shot action with a Broughton barrel on it and I've fooled around with Federal, Win, Rem,got to lightly turn the necks), Lapua, Norma, RWS and I just bought 500rds of PMC brass. This PMC brass checks out pretty good. In my opinion I think 10X and VV N-130 are the two best powders.

I load for the 222 rem tho i havent tryed varget in it my load is 24.5 of IMR 4895 with BR primers and a siera 53 MK

I was loading BRs with varget yesterday and remembered reading this post so when i finished what i was loading i reached over and grabed a fired 222 case,RP nickeled) and weighed out 25 gr of varget and it all went into the case just to the bottom of the neck

might be time to do a scale check

I have already checked my scale it is right and i have tried the 10X and N130 and N135 also and they shoot pretty good but the Varget will shoot into one hole !!

I have always had the best all around luck with the use of Winchester brass. If I am setting up my rifle for shooting in the local varmint rifle matches, in the factory stock class, I will use Norma brass, since I have found it to be one of the best cases for the Deuce at this time. The powder that has delivered the best velocity, & accuracy for me, has been VVN-133 with either a Berger 52gr, or Speer 50gr TNT. Other powders that have worked well for me have been H-4198, RL-7, 748, H-335, & AA-2015. In a conversation I had with Mike Walker, he told me that he prefers to use IMR-4895 in the Deuce. I would imagine that he has forgotten more on the Deuce than I will learn!
