221 fireball

The lyman 225415 mold gives a 55gr gas check bullet that is very accurat in the 221 at velocities in the mid teens. the meat loss is minimum and cost is cheap.

gas check reduces possibility of leading and if you use wheel weight lead the alloy is fine, just be sure to flux and skim the lead after first melting

a good squirl load also

i'm not molding my own bullets. FMJ. that seems like a good idea. i'm going to start looking.
If your reloading make yourself a special rabit load with less powder. Or just use your 22 mag.

No offense K0na but, a 22 mag is pretty tough on rabbits. I have shot several with a 22 mag and it made a horrible mess of them with the 30gr. CCI ballistic tips. Now if a guy could just do head shots? It would be alright ;)!

if you dont mold, try some of the commercial molders and see if they have this or simular bullets gas checked, they are really what you are looking for i pushthem at about 1400 with 2400 and they shoot bug 1/2 at 50 yd they dont expand at the velocity and are deadly aith 55gr wt.

i'm trying to keep from getting a 22 mag. i like the trail boss idea. i have some 55 v-maxes. if it's going that slow i don't even know if they'll expand??? i might try to just reduce the rl 7 i shoot and see what it does. idk. seems like to me itd save me a lot of money using a gun i already got.

You also may want to refer to some Blue Dot reduced loads. A friend here uses BD in his 223 for edible game, and says it works very well for the intended purpose with FMJ's.

cast lead bullet..with gas checks...montana bullets and beartooth bullets...I have been shooting them for years in my hornet for squirrls and ground hog at 100 yds..very nice bullets and lots of fun. Trail Boss..RED DOT BLUE DOT...the internet has lots of information..just google

take a look here at the lyman 224415, it shoot very accurate, and can be driven in the 1400-1600 easily with a number of powders.

Bob

fmj ar just too fast or loose accuracy when slowed down in my experience, these gain accuracy when driven in these velocities

FYI. Check your hunting regs . Many states do not allow FMJ's for hunting .
