Rem Factory 221 Fireball Chamber

Will Lapua 221 Fireball brass have to have the necks turned to have proper neck clearance in a factory remington fireball chamber? Thanks

Gene

I've shot it in a 700 and an xp100 without issues. The xp had a shorter chamber than my 700, but that wasn't brass related.

Best bet?? Load a couple of dummy rounds and see if they will cycle.
Know for yourself. Better than ,maybe, works for me, no issues.
What works for some of us, may not work for you.;) Better safe than sorry.

Yes, that is a given with me...always check first. Just wanting some info to go on so as to help decide on purchasing several hundred Lapua brass or not. If the majority indicate it works, then the purchase will be made, otherwise I will purchase Remington brass. If you have some loaded Lapua 221 Fireball brass, could you tell me what the loaded neck diameter mic's out to be? Thanks

I've got 800 Lapua 221FB cases being shot in rotation in my Cooper M38 Phoenix 221FB, and I've had no issues with the Lapua necks whatever. Groups run in the .2's, sage rats and rock chucks die on a regular basis.

Go for it!

I checked one round----Lapua brass----unturned neck---unknown times fired---Sierra SMK 52----across neck .2475", very consistent
at several points around neck.

My chamber from PT&G reamer shows .250" neck. Hope this helps.

Would be interesting to know the factory neck diameter. I'd suspect you'd have plenty of clearance but, you need to know
that you have enough.

Could be wrong but I think the only real concern, with regard to Lapua brass having enough neck clearance, is when you are necking down a Lapua parent case for some of the different wildcats. I doubt any factory rifle, except maybe a custom chambered one, will have a tight enough neck to be concerned with.
