221 fireball forming dies

Why isn't it? What is 20VT brass then?
Nothing more the 221 fireball brass necked down and shoulder moved forward.
Guess I dont see how you can push a shoulder down almost .500 in one pass and not crush the body of the case.

When you have a 30 degree shoulder or even steeper angle to move it's much more likely to crush the case, then move than a 20 to 23 degree sholder when ya have a considerable amount of brass to move. Plus the final diameter of going to 20 or 17 caliber is more difficult, hence multiple dies and multiple annealing and case neck turning...and .5" is not .360" it all makes a difference, even brass brand, can influence the outcome of the final result. Case forming is what it is, you have to do whatever it takes to make cases that satisfy you and your chamber.
This one is simple effective and it works for most one pass and done. I've made 308 into 6mm ARC with large primers to see if it's possible. It is but ya got to machine the solid head and cut a new extractor groove, anneal and run through several dies...then machine necks. So you can go to the extreme if needed...but why do any more steps then necessary.

Wild card option.

Do you have a Redding body die in 221 FB ?

I tried this on a few 223 and 222 cases.

After the cases come out of the body die, the real work begins.

The length trimming and neck turning would be quite a bit of work.

This will be my approach if I run out and can't get 221 FB brass.

EDIT
I wasn't sure I told the whole truth so I revisited what I thought
I'd done sometime back.

I used a Win 223 case and crammed it into a 221 FB body die----sized it
as much as my die and press would do, in one pass.

This produced what appeared to be a 221 FB case with a very long neck.

The entire neck was cut off and the case went into a 221 FB chamber
with a little more than normal effort to close the bolt.

In short this should work and produce useable cases after the big job
of length trimming and neck turning.
