220 wilson arrow

I have an old 220 wilson arrow built long ago on a springfield action. It has the initials c.e. bryant on the side of the barrel. This is a very well built target rifle with a douglas barrel and laminated walnut bishop stock and canjar trigger. My question is does anyone know any info on this "c.e. bryant"? I would just like to know a little more history on the rifle.

Thanks jon. Yeah i think he was from charleston. Everytime i hold the gun i feel like im holding a piece of varminting history. It appearsto he waswas a goodgood craftsman. Im going to blow the dust off it and put some loads together for it.

You will like it - the .220 Wilson Arrow is a good cartridge.

I was in the same situation last summer. I bought a very nice old Varmint gun . FN single shot action with a Sako barrel ina gorgeous solid walnut stock. Mine is 22-250, and shoots pretty good. Lots of research revealed very little. I found one gun, of similar vintage with anFN action 2 digits lower than mine, that was made by A. Pryor. That was all I could find. You may already know this but... If you are going to use Swift brass make sure you mark/ id your brass in some fashion (nail polish on the headstamp works great) so you will remember to never chamber the Arrow in a Swift chamber... really bad things can happen if you do

yeah i know the gun will shoot as the previous owner supplied several 1/2 " groups shot with an old weaver k8 scope. He said it loved pushing a 52 gr hp with 42.5 gr of h380. Anyway we will see how it does. Its such a well built gun.

No need to mark them in any way... It is no problem

Once a case is a .220 Wilson Arrow, it will no longer fit in a .220 Swift chamber.

The first sizing of the .220 Swift case in the Wilson Arrow die causes the case to "muffin top", and it is too fat in the shoulder to chamber. Once it is fireformed, the body is too fat and it will not chamber. So there is no danger.

I am in the process of reversing the process. I have 50 pieces of poorly formed, Norma .220 Wilson Arrow cases with HORRIBLE oil dents in the shoulders, and I will make them back into .220 Swift.

It is "Interesting"!! They are loaded and will be fire formed back to .220 Swift when the weather get better in the spring.

Catshooter is correct-- the .220 Wilson Arrow will not fit in a .220 Swift chamber. My memmory does bad things to me sometimes and my mouth follows right along with it. I should not have said anything unless I was 100 % sure of my info. Sorry that I mislead any one. dedogs
