220 SWIFT

WHATS A GOOD LOAD FOR A 220 SWIFT HART BARREL 1 IN 14 TWIST 1909 RECEVIIER BO TRIGER NEW TO LOOG SHOOTING ANY HEEP APP THANKS

I shoot 40 grains H380, standard primer, 55 grain vmax in a 220 Swift Arisaka...similar vintage, aftermarket barrrel.

Oh, and grab a good manual. A 14 twist will stablaize to 55 grains, flat based easily. Try 50 or 55 grain bullets and keep your MV at about 3700, you will find some good accuracy. No need to run it hard.

I always used IMR 4064 in my Swifts, It works good too.
I have recently switched to H414 in my current Swift - a custom Cooper. I was getting 3970 fps with a 55 grain Sierra spbt with a maximum load that is listed in several manuals. That load proved to be too hot in my rifle as pressure signs were showing. I have dropped down enough in charge weight to what seems like more reasonable pressure signs and still really good accuracy. My rifle has a 12" twist but I never had any trouble getting 55 grain boat tails to stabilize in a 14" twisted Swift or a 14" twisted 22-250 for that matter.
Just my experiences....every rifle is different.
Let your Swift show you what it likes....Then enjoy it!

A stout load of H414 and 55 grn ballistic tips will serve you quite well. BR2 primers

Plus 1!

Also Win. 760 powder is another to try. I have strictly used 55 Nosler BT's in my Swifts for 20 years and they are my go to bullet in a 14 twist. Do not be afraid to try Fed. Match primers also. I push my Swifts hard and the H-414 helps me get there. As mentioned IMR-4064 is also a very good powder. I also played around with IMR-4831 years ago and groups were incredible but speed lagged behind other powders by 3-400 fps.
