220 swift

603

If you neck turned them, if your expander ball was to big or the neck bushing not small enough.
Your neck die didn’t have a expander ball in it, did it?

Hal
They weren’t neck turned. I just wore em out in an unexpected way.

If brass life weighs that heavily in your decision, then the Swift is not for you. That is like saying I want a Funny Car that gets good fuel mileage and has trunk space for my groceries. In a speed race, 4-5 reloads vs 8 is not worth considering. Speed is speed - all else is twadle.

please tell me the water capacity of a 220 swift AI ??
Ill help you ..its 47 to 48 grains
Maybe this is a typo or I'm misunderstanding what you typed but the standard 220 Swift has a case capacity of 47-ish gr H2O

The Ackley Improving a 220 Swift due to it having so much case taper increases its case capacity quite a lot and bumps it up to around 54-55gr H2O depending on the manufacture of brass.

If I'm going to go wildcat AND have something I have to fireform for I'll jump to one of the many different versions of a 22=243 Improved which is what I did. My 224 Terminator is my gunsmiths version of a 22-243 Imp and with formed 243 Lapua brass it holds 58gr H2O. My smith forms the brass so I don't have to mess with it otherwise I probably would have looked doing something like a 22-284.

For me the benefit of being able to use Lapua brass is if I'm doing some kind of wildcat or "improved" cartridge I want the brass to not only last a long time but also be as consistent from piece to piece as possible.

I'm not the smart ass to which you are referring, but I was under the knowledge that the CM came from the 30 TC. An argument can be made that the TC came from the 308, as the 308 has been shortened, and necked up/down since it came out. But the CM is not a direct descendant of the 308.

Such fun here...
I want an AI Swift simply to decrease the sizing issue and be able to buy factory brass and loaded ammunition if need be.

I already have hot rods I need to rework like my 6mm and 257 variants on the 6.5-284 case.

thanks all,

Rich
