Howdy !

Apples and near-apples....

My .22-35Rem wildcat has case capacity between that of .22-250 & .220 Swift. I have seen lighter bullet ( 55gr ) data for Swifts that would also have been ok in my gun(s).

I shot .22-35 from a 28" SS K & P 1-8 5-groove.

My best accuracy load was" 40.5gr AA3100 FED LR Match 75"A"-Max for 3,420fps.
A simple primer-only switch in the load netted 3,500fps honest, while group size did open a bit.

AA3100 out-shot I4831, RL-19, VV160, VV560 in the rifle as described, above.

Hope that helps, some ?

Try the twist rate calculator at Berger bullets. You'll need bullet length to factor. A .224", 75 grn Hornady BTHP is .992" long. If you can drive the 75 grn at 3400 fps its a go. At 2900fps a no-go. I've never seen load data for a 75 grn bullet in .220 swift either. So the velocity you can achieve is a blank in the equation unless someone here has experience. Can anyone help?

13red56, Found some more info for you at: a custom shilen/McMillan/ gritters.220swift........ Maybe this will help some. Other .220 swift info there also. Ain't google amazin' :)

Hi Red ! I just googled: customshilen/mcmillan/gritters.220swift No problem pulling up the article. Pulled it up on Yahoo also. The article refers to attainable velocities with 75 gr. bullets. A figure you can use in the Berger twist rate calculator along with the bullet length I quoted. The fellow who wrote the article used a 8" twst bbl. You can determine if your 9" twst will stabilize a 75gr by plugging in the numbers. Not rocket science :) itty bitty groups to ya', Dale P.S. I've got a .223AI in 8" twst which will stabilize 75 gr. bullets. I think your 9" twst might be marginal......... Plug in the numbers & see.
