.22 WMR for coyotes

Tag. I use the Hornady Critical Defense 45 grain for coons out of my Kel Tec and even with the smaller targets, I don't always get exits.
I haven't shoot my 22 mag (Marlin micro groove bolt action) in years but when it was my main truck gun I tried every 22 mag ammo i could get my hands on. The best shooting I ever found was Armscor Precision. It has a hollow point that looks like a pistol hollow point with 1/2 of the nose exposed lead. I would try them if i wanted to use a 22mag.
I liked the win super-x 40gr jhp. 100y they aren't bullet proof.

So you have killed them @ 100 yards with this bullet ? DRT or do they tend to run quite a bit before expiring ?
Two holes through the lungs kills them. Not enough "slap" from a 22mag for DRT, 20-50y dead like deer with a 30-30. High marginal or back too far, not good, the hill zone on a coyote is smaller than most think. Their fur is rather long (3" winter coat). Most chest diameter is 6-9".
I am probably going to be fried for these comments, some say a 25-06 is necessary to kill "yotes" and some that say a .223 rem is great for deer. I say use what you got and make the best shot possible and decide for yourself. I prefer a centerfire, but if a 22mag is what you have, go for it.

Win 40gr JHP's work for me. I have a number of centerfire rifles set up for coyote hunting, I like to experiment with cartridges and platforms. A 22 Win Mag is a dandy little coyote cartridge if you stay within it's effective range with the bullet you choose.

I killed quite few with the 40g Winchester HP. I tried the Win Supreme and the Rem Premiere 33g and they did not give adequate results.
I sighted my Ruger 77 all weather in for 100 yards, longest oneKill shot around 130 and that coyote flopped on the spot, facing me shot.
I was hunting in Az and shots probably averaged 80 yards.

Shoot them with, Winchester Hollow Points at, 20-30 FEET in the Head as, hitting one, past 50 Yards any place else, doesn't, Kill them,.. "Reliably" ( aka, humanely ! ).
Ask me, How I,.. Know ? Tried Twice ( about 65- 75 Yards out, each ) they ran over the Hill, BOTH, times !
Gave Rifle, to grandson to use on, squirrels and Rabbits after LOSING, those TWO !
Now, I use,.. a .22-250 Rem, . 223 Rem, or, better yet, the, .243 Win or, 6 XC !
Coyotes DO, Run Fast and Yelp loudly, tho, when hit behind, the shoulder with, Win JHP's in the Boiler Room, area, tho,.. LOL ! Damn, I was proud of that, M-64 .22 Mag. Annie with, 6X Leupold, T'was Good, for Jackrabbits !
Always, bring ENOUGH Gun !

Shooting a fox and killing them DRT and shooting a coyote and killing them DRT are two entirely different things.

No kidding, never said they were DRT and never said they were a Yote and any DRT shot with a 22 mag is likely a CNS shot.
I didn't infer you said DRT. The DRT comment was in regards to the OP's statement of a humane kill, which on a fox is much more likely than a coyote using the cartridge he inquired about. That was my only point.

I've had good shots on them with a .22 WMR but never recovered them. After that, I had switched to a centerfire.
