.22 PPC short vs .22PPC

What are the advantages of a shortened .22 PPC over a standard length one? I plan to test the two as soon as I get my new Hart barrel chambered. It will be chambered for the standard version since I already have a Hart barrel chambered for the .22 PPC-.095. Thanks, James Mock

When I was shooting benchrest I bought a rifle that came with a 22ppc-.125 short barrel. It shot lights out most of the time but my brass forming abilities always had some cases that would cause a flyer. Recoil was enough less than the 6ppc that my poor bench techniques were minimized so I shot some very nice groups when my bras was good and mediocre ones when my brass was poor. If I was to do it again I would stick with the standard 22ppc or the 220 Beggs just for ease of making quality brass every time. Tom

JD, you can put this in the "for what it's worth column" if you like but here goes,
I don't think that there is enough difference between any of the popular 22's in short range BR (22 PPC whatever short) 22 PPC or 220 Beggs) to sweat over! FINDING A POWDER THAT PERFORMS IN THE CARTRIDGE THAT YOU CHOOSE is probably most important. Good 22 and 6mm bullets are around so little difference there, but day in and day out........I believe that the 6mm will out agg the 22's, however, that being said.......should the numbers turn around like 30 people shooting 22's and 2 shooting 6mm, I could be persuaded to change my mind on that as well. I also believe that my next 22 barrel will be a 220 beggs, they are performing very well around here in the new UBR format.
