.22 LR, S

I think I know the answer to this question, but I want to be certain. I grew up shooting my Dad's single shot Winchester, stamped for .22 S, L, and LR, shooting mostly Short or CB because it was super cheap.

I think I know the answer to this, but I have a CZ bolt-action single shot, in .22LR. Is there any reason I can't shoot .22 Short or CB out of it? I realize accuracy will probably be relatively bad, but I'm more curious as to "can I", rather than "should I".

The rounds will chamber but you might have to do so manually. The cost for shorts is higher than the cost of the LR loads today so you are unlikely to save money.

thanks. I couldn't think of any technical reason why it wouldn't work. So far as I can tell, shorts and LR are identical, except for length so there couldn't be anything different about a chamber that that is stamped for both LR and S.

There is a fair body of opinion that says that anything other than occaisional use will degrade your chamber for LR use.

What happened out for old CB caps with the copper case and an acorn on the base ! They are corrosive! Even the box I bought 4-5 yrs ago .

Jay,
I shoot .22 short, mag fed through my CZ452, chambered in 22LR.. They run flawlessly. They are plenty accurate.

If you'd like to shoot low velocity rounds, consider the CCI CB Longs. They have the same length case as the LR and the same bullet and velocity as the CB Shorts. Being a shorter case, shooting shorts eventually will erode the chamber in front of the short case. Even a fair amount of shooting shorts can cause carbon build up which will prevent easy LR chambering unless cleaned out.

Well since I assume your interest is other than match grade accuracy and it might lead to a new gun ( a good thing) , one of the absolute funnest guns I ever bought and still own is an early 60's Browning auto for 22 short.
I have even been told if I source an extra spring and shorten it, they will function with CB caps.
