22 LR Precision Rifle Match

Silver $$ Contributor
I am looking to start a 22 LR Precision Rifle Match. I would like to shoot steel, match sticks, split playing cards, eggs, clays, sucker, etc. with ranges running from 25yds to 200yds. I have found a few match to drive to, but would like do one my self. I am in SW VA, let me know of any matches near me. Also let me know of things that you are shooting.

I'm in NC and would travel to one of your matches. Myself and several others around me are shooting 40Xs that I've converted to repeaters. This is mine. Most I've done from around here are set up similar.

Jeirod,
Good looking rig. I found a match in Durham, are there any other matches in NC.

Sorry I can't be of any help for you to locate other matches. I tip my hat to you for looking to increase competitive opportunities.

I'm a frustrated smallbore silhouette shooter (frustrated since I've watched so many match opportunities decline that are most convenient to me). I've also competed in low-level 3-P matches. There are a few club level benchrest matches are around and while I truly admire super accurate rifles, I personally do not find rimfire BR my first choice of competition.
All that said I'd be interested in a drive to SW Virginia for a match provided I have the appropriate equipment. Keep us posted.

Boyd,
I am with you. I'm not much on shooting Paper. We will have a Factory and Open Class. Your equipment should fit in there some where. We will have to shooting distances. Most will have gun that shoot 100yds, but 200yds will take scope with a lot of adjustment, or moa tilt in the base. I will post if we get something going.

Great. Looking forward to finding out more.
What area of southwestern Virginia are we talking about?

I run one in Southern Colorado.

It is all steel, hit or miss. Easy to set up and easy to score. Target size is 1-3 MOA. Close target 50 meters, far target is 200 meters.

We do put up a KYL rack with 2 inch to 1/4 inch targets at 40-50 meters. A complete report is here. https://www.ar-15.co/threads/151753-Pueblo-Rimfire-Precision-Matches

Initially we used out Sportsmans Team Challenge steel that works just like Biathlon targets but dragging out 1,500 lbs of steel was starting to get old. So now we just use steel targets on conveyer belt just like we use at PRS matches.

I have two 40Xs that jelrod1 converted to repeaters. One is a registered SBR with a 10.5 inch barrel. Despite that short barrel it still easily hits 2 inch plates at 200 meters. He has my last two 40Xs in the shop now. Now my primary rifle and back-up/loaner will be repeaters.

I tried to use my Anschutz 2018 prone rifle but the targets are just too small to see with irons. I am going to put a scope on it and shoot it coat and sling sometime next year.

Mark it's a ton fun and just gives me another reason to buy gun stuff. Rodney has done a great job with setting up these match's. It was the same with our group in south Texas, we saw the youtube stuff and found his FB page and we are now 8 months deep in it. We are now a chapter of his club.

Did anything ever come of this? I'm in East Tennessee, near the VA line and would be very interested in this type of match. Kettlefoot in Bristol would be a great location, as well as the North Fork Sportsman's Club in Saltville.

rolltide,
No, I have not got anything going. I was hoping to start one at RRRC in Roanoke, VA. But they have some internal things going on. I am going to stay clear of that. North Fork is about the same distance as Roanoke. I have a few more places to check on. I will let everyone know if I get something going.

I just taked with North Fork Sprotsman is Saltville, VA http://www.nfscinc.com/contact/ , they have a Extreme Range Silhouette. Shot at 80 yds. to 200 yds. No match date at this time, sometime in June. This club is a young club only open a few years. I am looking to join and give them a hand. Let them know you want to shoot the match. more info to come.

I have joined North Fork Sprotsman Club is Saltville, VA. I want to start another long range 22LR match. What would you like to see in a match? I would like to keep it steel, and stuff like shooting suckers, gum balls, matches, etc. I'm not much on shooting paper.
