22 K Hornet Primer

I shoot two rifles in 22 K Hornet, a small frame Martini and a custom Winchester M43. For years I've shot AA1680, Winchester WSR, and the 40g Vmax in the Martini. I'm still working up a load for the M43 although it shoots very well with the same load as the Martini provided the bullets are seated out into the lands making it essentially a single shot.

Has anyone tried different primers with AA1680 in the K-Hornet?

I've used Remington 6 1/2 small rifle primers - they work well in the K-Hornet with just about any powder.

Well I don't have a 22 K hornet I do have a 22 hornet ...I started out using pistol primers but when trying
rem 7.5 rifle primers my groups shrunk amazingly. This might not work for your rifle but for the 22 hornet
seems primers can make a big difference on many rifles. When changing primers I decreased my powder
charge weight and worked back up just to be safe. Oh...I am using "LIL gun" powder. I know it's not exactly
what your using but I thought maybe this info might be of use.

In all my K-Hornets, the Rem 6-1/2 along with A1680 has been my go-to formula for going on 35 years. Thousands of ground squirrels and a boatload of rock chucks will attest to it's effectiveness.

Tried others, but this primer gives the best overall performance, SD and consistent round groups.

Bought a bottle of Lil Gun before Christmas to try but haven't got around to it. Tried pistol powders and small pistol primers in the Martini K Hornet 30 years ago without much joy. I'm possibly going to Nevada in April for my second ever ground squirrel shoot and would like to take one of the K Hornets along with my 17 Ackley Bee and possibly my new 20VT. I mostly shot the 17 AB last year.

I use Federal 205 primers in my 20 Ackley Hornet with 34gr FBHP's, but I found AA1680 to be a little slow. Pistol powders like RL2400 and Lil Gun seem to work better for speed. Need do load testing all over now since I found out my crown was screwed up and had to have it redone...

I tried pistol primers in a regular 22 hornet before and they work ok with moderate loads. But when you start trying to get your speeds up, you get pierced primers. The cups on pistol primers are just way too thin. No reason to use them. Not like they save you money or provide any other benefits.

have you tried CFE-Black in the Hornet? I have no experience with the 22, but it's the only powder that gives factory speed and good accuracy with the 17 Hornet.

I was shooting the CCI 450's in my K-hornet, but I rebarreled it into a 20 ackley hornet. Like others, I also tried Little gun and found it to be unpredictable. So I use 1680 in the 20ah, and also in my 20 killer bee's. anybody who shoots a martini knows that if you use a magnum primmer with the thicker cup, you can squeeze a little more velocity out of it before it's hard to open the bolt.

I used Federal match and Lilgun. i also did 6 1/2's . Saw no diference.
