22 Hornet to 22 K Hornet

Can the chamber of a 22 Hornet, bolt action, be reamed to 22 K Hornet without removing the barrel from the action by a competent gunsmith . Or is this a feat a good gunsmith won't try to do ?

I have seen an article about reaming an H&R handi rifle, but never a bolt action barrel with action attached. I would think it could be done, but it would be a bit tough to reach through the action, at least it would seem. You may be able to do it yourself if you can find a way to hold the reamer. The K hornet can be done by hand from what I have read, though I have not done it myself.

Why would you not want to remove the action? I would think that would make this a lot easier.

Good luck with the project.

I have seen picture threads of it being done with an extension on the reamer, however, if you are doing this because the barrel is pressed in (ie: savage) you may want to do some more research. I remember reading somewhere that some of their hornets used the same actions as the rimfires and may not be strong enough to handle the pressure increase that a k-hornet would have. Just something to look out for if that's the case.
