22 hornet bullet?

Lil gun is certainly a great powder for the Hornet as well as the 40gr bullets. Problem with most Hornet rifles is most are rear lug guns and you'll have to keep loads down to avoid head separation on your cases. If you have a CZ or any of the front lug guns, you will have more versatility and more pep in your loads. There is also the issue, if you have a magazine fed rifle or handgun, of the longer ammo with plastic tipped bullets not fitting the magazine. Despite all it's quirks I love that Hornet!

I use 40 grain Vmax in my Hornet with Lil Gun.. I have to seat it deep and the powder is compressed but that's the way it is.. Dedicated Hornet bullets are hard to find. I just found a box of Sierra 45 gr hornet bullets to try.. I am shooting max loads in my hornet with no problems. But I have had a match chamber cut and bolt work done.. No brass problems either

And in case you are wondering I am using small pistol primers.

I have a Ruger 77 Hornet with a Shilen Barrel land it loves Berger 40 gr and Lil-Gun.

Midway has the Bergers in stock.

Lil-gun and 40gr bullets are a good way to go. If you want the best accuracy, like stated above use small pistol primers. I load almost max listed loads for a Ruger 77-22H and Browning Low Wall. Both are working well with the same load of Lil-gun

Long ago I stopped using pistol primers in my Hornets, K-Hornet and 17AH, and started using the Rem 6-1/2 primer that was actually designed and manufactured for the Hornet case. It has a thicker cup than pistol primers and gives consistency that I never enjoyed using pistol primers.

The 6-1/2 does not crater like pistol primers, does not flatten to the point you don't know if you've exceeded the pressure limits of the case or not, and gives much lower velocity variations than pistol primers.

Remember.....they're called "pistol primers" for a reason........JME

I also tried pistol primers and went back to small rifle. I use 13.2 gr of Lil' Gun, Win case, 40 gr V-max, Fed 205 primers. Great accuracy in several different bolt guns. I also load long and don't use the magazines. I use a Calhoon follower in my CZ and made one for the 77/22 Hornet. My Browning I have to load single shot by starting it into the chamber. Haven't worked on a single shot follower for that yet. I have no case issues or primer issues. Hornady list Lil' Gun max as 13.3 grains.
Enjoy !!!

Since posting this I have found some 45 grain Sierra hornet bullets. As well as a few box's of 35 Gr Vmax. After loading and shooting both as well as my 40 gr Vmax loads.. I am going to stick with the 40 Vmax's.. Either Lil'Gun, H110 or 296 work well in this.. Still using CCI pistol primers, but I do have some Rem 6-1/2's on hand.. Might give em a go. But no probs yet with the CCI's
