22 dasher

sirs,
i have a 25 inch barrel on my shilen.it is in 22 br set up in 1986 i think.would i be ahead if i got shilen to rechamber it to 22 dasher?the barrel is 1 in 14 twist.am looking for 3800 fps velocity from 50 and 55 grain bullets.

I have a cartridge similar to a dasher -- longer neck -- and I had to stop pushing the 52g bullets at 3750 due to loss -- they exploded due to the 8 twist barrel. I did not get close to pressure issues so getting a Dasher close to or over 4000 should not be a problem. Barrel life is another issue though.

Before you go to the expense/effort of rechambering, try AA 2520. Some guys are reporting 3700 fps with 55 Nosler BTips. You might also have a smith move the throat out a bit, adding case capacity. As long as you have one bullet diam. of bearing surface in the neck those pills should shoot fine.

If you like your 22 br you will fall in love with the dasher. It does everything a 22-250 ackley will do with less powder and superior brass. The brass is so stable and durable after forming. The br's are great but the dashers are better in my eyes. I have a 22 dasher and am shooting a 100 grain wildcat bullet at 3000 FPS with 35 grains of powder. I think you shouldn't have any problems with the velocity you want.
