Howdy !

Apples & near-apples.....

My .22-35Rem wildcat has case capacity close to the notional wildcat you mention:

.22-35 :
In a 24" SS 5-groove 1-16, I ran Hornady 55"V-Max" @ 3,960 from a charge of 41.6gr VV160 and FED LR Magnum Match.
My accuracy load was: Hornady 55SX over 41.2 WW760 and FED LR Magnum Match.

.22-35 :
In a 28" SS 5-groove 1-8, I shot Hornady 75 "A"-Max over 40.5 AA3100 and FED Magnum Match; for 3,500fps honest.
Switched primer in load to FED LR Match and groups shrank tighter, w/ a slight vel drop to 3,420fps.

In the 28" 1-8, AA3100 out-shot IMR4831, VV160, VV560; and RL-19.

At-length, I found that my rifle w/ its 28" barrel fit inside a Plano " Airglide ", w/ an inch to spare !
As it turned out, I could have just as easily gone w/ a 29" barrel.

Having said that, I'd recommend a 29" barrel.... if you shooting needs/ style can accomodate one.

For powders, my sense of it is that you would use something in the AA3100 burn rate range... or "slower".

The FED Magnum Match ( in my guns, my loads ) sure seemed to perform well; considering it was used w/ a goody variety of powders.

Best of luck in your endeavors !

Howdy... again !

... Guess I should have qualified my previous recommendations:

If you have in-mind shooting a .224" caliber bullet like the 75 "A"-Max, a 1-8 twist 29" barrel could make for a great dual role'
varmint/target rifle.

It's simply the 6.5 Creedmoor necked down to accept 22 cal bullets.

Velocities with be within spitting distance of the 22-243, as the case capacities are quite similar with a slight edge going to the 22-243.

GAP was selling 6mm Creedmoor brass for a while. Necking that down would be the easiest way to get brass.

When we boil it down, it's essentially a 22-243 with a smidge less capacity and a slightly better case design. Wether or not the design is superior enough to make a significant accuracy difference in a field rifle is not for me to say, as I haven't tried the round for myself.

i was surprised that a pacific tool and gage put a 22cm out there. i was just wondering about it....

Resurrecting an ancient thread from the dead. I just received my 22 creedmoor reamer in the mail from PT&G. Waiting on the bbl from Krieger. Anyone have any recent experience on load data and performance? I have seen some guys over on snipers hide running one with 75 amax and a Gent on Predator Master running the 80amax. Personally, I think that I would prefer the 80.5gn Bergers for critters.

The 22-250ai is a little smaller but gets the idea across.

Yes, indeed, but at the expense of reduced feeding reliability due to the sharper shoulder angle. Granted, with that 40* shoulder comes reduced trimming, but for a coyote rifle I would rather have it feed reliably everytime.
No, I'm speaking of the performance and load data.

Is that from experience or theory? I've built a few 22/250 AI's for clients and shot one for several years myself and every one of them fed just as reliably as the standard case. In fact I've never had an Ackley cartridge of any kind not feed fine and I've built plenty of them.

Huck, if feeding reliability is a concern, by the same logic, the .22-243Win, with its ample body taper and mild shoulder, will feed "better" than a .22Creed. As an added bonus, it'll allow for slightly more capacity, plus the bonus of using Lapua .243Win brass. There's nothing about Hornady brass that gives me goose bumps about building a wildcat around, but that's beginning to go off on a tangent...

My main coyote rifle is a .22-243AI. Before I built it, was rockin' a straight .22-243Win. Why? Because I had the same feeding concerns that you've expressed. But, here I am now, chambering two more barrels in .22-243AI. Reason being, is that ICBM lookin', sharp shouldered, no body taper havin' SOB will feed slick as snot from an AICS mag & DBM system.

If it didn't, I'd be back shooting a vanilla .22-243Win...

So, I agree with swd.

Fredo, are those from Casey in Duncan, oK by any chance?

Yes, Sir.
From what I know, he's built nearly a dozen fast twist/ long throated .22-243AIs with our reamer, and they're all in the hands of coyote killers.
Casey's got my two barrels in hand, just waiting to get my action's bolt back from DLC coating to get 'em spun up! DLC shop is 2+months behind schedule, gettin' antsy!

No shame in a 22-243. I just happen to have about 700-800 pcs of 6 and 6.5cm brass and no gun in either caliber at the moment. Figured that I would utilize what I had on hand. If starting from scratch I would probably run a 22x47L in 8tw.
