22 Creedmoor problem

Well, I thought everything was progressing on my build. I can use a 6.5 CM sizing die with bushings to size the neck down on 6.5 CM and 6 CM to .224. That part is settled. Now comes the seater. I thought I would just use a 6.5 CM L.E. Wilson seater die, (because I have it already) and buy a .22 caliber VLD stem for it. Well, the stem opening on the 6.5 CM die is way bigger than the .22 caliber stem. Back to square one. I understand I can get some Whidden dies made out of 3 fired cases. That would be a little costly. Besides, how do I send him 3 fired cases as I have no way to seat a bullet. Whidden says they can use the reamer print. Any other manufactures of 22 Creedmoor die sets?

Why not pick up 100 cases from alpha munitions. They sell 22 Creedmoor brass for 99.00 per 100. Seems easier than all the work sizing down necks. Although just looking on their site, looks out of stock currently.

I can remember somebody telling me that they fire formed cases using half of a the powder charge and the rest Malt O meal then a wad of tissue paper instead of the bullet, From what I understand they fire formed very well, hope this helps

Like mentioned above, Wilson blank if you want a chamber type die. I used a 22-250 Forster die and had the sleeve reamed.

Talked to them the other day. They are supposed to e-mail me as soon as they are back in stock. Was told it should be in 3-4 weeks.

That's great. Should make your project go a bit smoother. No fireforming, no neck sizing, no headaches. Should be a neat cartridge.

I'm using a 6mm Creedmoor F.L. bushing die with a .250" bushing and a 6mm competition seater with a VLD seating steam and it seems to be working great. Whitten dies are on order but I'm wondering why?

That is exactly what I went with! It does work just fine. Couldn't see spending money on the Whitten, for my type of shooting.

I used a 6mm seating die with good results until I switched to 90gr vld and seating consistency went to shit. Bought a generic redding seater then put a 22vld mico seater in it and it works great.

I use a RCBS competition and it works great with Berger 75gr
Have a set of Whidden and the sizer is very good but the seater sucks!

Sorry to necro post this but what is a “generic Redding seater”? I’m looking into 22 creedmoor seaters and wondering if I just buy a 6mm seater or if a 22-250 seater is smarter.

I started with whiddens a few years ago on my 22 creed, wasnt really impressed with them so last year i sold them and bought plain jane hornady 22 creed... no issues and im more satisfied. Im necking down 6mm creed brass
